Damn, being a leader was stressful. Don't get me wrong, it had its perks. But at the same time, you have to plan battles and send out spies and all of that boring shit. I don't know how I managed to get this position, but I really wished it would be over.
"You wanted to see me, sir?" That girl, who I couldn't be bothered to remember her name, walked into the room. What I was hoping for with her was some easy solution to this whole rebellion. Something that could make us just...win.
"Call me JJ."
She nodded.
"I wanted to ask about that case your friends gave to me. They said you would know what it was, so I waited for you to wake up and get settled."
She shrugged. "You'll be disappointed, but I don't know too much. All they said was that it was some bomb that was really powerful. My friend told me it was going to be used to blow up the rebel base."
"How would your friend know that?"
Her expression changed. I didn't know what to think of it, but it was quick. She fixed her face and shrugged again. "He must've overheard it."
Interesting.
"That's all you know?"
"My brother's probably figured the whole thing out by now. If you give him anything to figure out, he'll think and think until he figures it out. I would ask him what he thinks."
I nodded.
"Is that all you needed me for?"
I took a second to collect my thoughts. "How long did you stay in London? After everything that happened?""The whole five years. We had nowhere else to go."
"So you must be pretty good at surviving. They have guards there every few steps it seems like."
She smirked. "I learned how to use a gun before I learned to walk. We managed just fine."
I laughed. "I'd like for you to lead a team to central London. After this long, I'm sure you know it like the back of your hand. Plus, you've been to the main base. We can take a few days to try and figure out this bomb thing, but I think we might be able to win this war."
"Lead? I'm not so sure about that," she said. "But I wouldn't mind tagging along."
"Works for me. Let me know if you think anyone else would fit the job. We should hopefully be ready to go in a few days. I'll try to come up with some sort of plan and we will meet back here the night before."
She nodded. She stood there awkwardly, so I laughed."You can go now."
She smiled and walked out. Natalie came rushing in not a few seconds later. She seemed pissed, so I braced myself.
"Hey Nat."
"Don't," She hissed. I rolled my eyes. "We're not even close to ready to send a team into London. We just lost 13 people on our last mission, and you expect the survivors to go back? It's suicide."
"You may not believe me, but I think we actually have a chance against those guys. We have their bomb that we can use against them..."
"No, we have a bomb that we don't know how to use. What if we can't figure it out and accidentally blow up base? Then the war will be over, but the wrong side will win."
"Nat, relax," I walked towards her and hugged her. "I'll send this to the lab now and tell them to be extra careful. We'll figure this out. I promise."
She could be so stubborn sometimes. But she always kept me in check, especially when I lost my temper.
"Don't forget," She added. "Tomorrow's the going away party."
Right. We sometimes threw little parties to send off troops before they left. It was a good way to calm their nerves. We made sure to be very careful, though.
Anything could happen.
Extremely short chapter, but that was kind of on purpose. Hope I didn't disappoint!
