I stormed out of the room, meeting up with the others just in time to show them their rooms. I stayed towards the back of the group.

"You look pissed," I turned to the voice. Cara had fallen in step with me and looked at me quizzically.

I shrugged. "Just tired."

"Well, I just wanted to say thank you. For staying with me tonight. I bet it was kind of a drag, considering everything seems to move so quickly here," She looked down at the ground, a sad look in her eyes. I didn't know how to react, so I tentatively placed my hand on her shoulder and she looked up at me. It was my best attempt at comfort.

"Don't worry about it. Things go pretty slow around here. It's when we actually go outside that things pick up pace," I smiled at her, and she smiled back. Satisfied with the smile, I took my hand off her shoulder. "Trust me, if you're anything like me, you'll be wishing you could get out of here."

"You're not allowed outside?"

"Not for a few days. I kind of went against orders when I came up with the idea to save you guys." I decided to leave out the fact that I had to "babysit" them.

How was I even supposed to do that? I didn't want to invade their space or anything, but I needed to be somewhat close to them to have an idea of what they were doing. I assumed JJ just wanted me to make sure we could trust them. I knew it was mainly to punish me, but something told me JJ didn't trust them, or at least some of them.

"I'll be back in a little bit," I told her. I had to ask Ethan what he thought of all this.

She smiled and nodded, following the others while I turned around to walk in the other direction.

I met up with Ethan and Emily in Ethan's room, sitting down on the floor and sighing. Ethan glanced at Emily, who nodded and left the room.

"What happened?"

I rolled my eyes. "JJ happened. I swear, I can't get him off my back. We did a good thing, didn't we?"

He nodded. "He's just watching out for you. It's his job. Let me guess; you're not allowed outside for a week."
"Actually, I think his exact words were, 'until I say so,'" I looked at him, and he chuckled. "That's not even the worst part. I have to babysit the survivors we brought in tonight."

"Babysit?"

"Make sure they can be trusted I guess. How do I even do that?"
He shrugged, standing up from his bed and leaning against the wall next to me.

"For starters, try not to be yourself."

"Did you say not be myself?"

"Yeah. I don't know if you've noticed, but you're closed off. You keep yourself from everyone. Hell, it took me months just to learn your mom's name."

"Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't think my mom's name was that important to you," I smiled sarcastically. "Maybe I should be writing these tips down."
He chuckled again, looking down at me. "Just do what I did with you. Be nice to them. It's the only way to get someone to open up."

I stood, slapping his shoulder lightly before walking out of the room. "Thanks, this actually kind of helped."

I looked out the window, trying to find the moon. It was the best way of knowing what time it was. I typically went outside to look; not just at the moon but at the stars. They just gave off a light that gave me hope.

These were the kinds of things I wouldn't tell anyone. It seemed better to keep

things to myself. Which is why Ethan's plan made no sense to me.
