Eun ties a mask around her ears to cover her nose and mouth. She looks over at Chan for a brief second and raises her brow.
"You don't seem too happy?" she sarcastically hums at him as he turns his head to glare at her. He snapped his gloves onto his hands, licking his teeth uncomfortably with his gaze focused on her. She found it slightly amusing that she'd managed to rile Chan up so much with a simple request for help. He asked what his job was, and she gave it to him. It was only a simple task, what was so hard about it? "Don't worry," she let a disappointed sigh fall from her lips, "I don't expect you to dig deep."
"So, what do you expect me to do?"
"Dig a few centimetres," Eun winked at him devilishly, staring as he choked internally. She hovers herself over the bodies separated by tables. There was only one thing she disliked so much about doing autopsies; their naked bodies. She didn't understand why she hated it so much, but it was an uncomfortable situation for her. Eun couldn't do her work, she felt too...distracted. So, every time she needed to do an autopsy, she'd cover them, or at least the parts she was most uncomfortable with.
"You know," Chan sighed, leaning against one of the tables, "I don't do autopsies. I won't be much help."
"Then you can entertain me."
As much as Chan would try to get himself out of the situation of being there, Eun refused to let him. He was trying every chance he got.
"We'll study one at a time and make it easier for ourselves."
"Won't that take longer?" he raised a brow.
Eun shrugged, "probably." She brushes her index over the wound on the first victim, "it won't be accurate, but we can still get some kind of idea."
Chan frowned as though he didn't understand what Eun had meant.
She looked back up at him, "we need to measure the dimensions of the weapon used. Withdrawal of a knife can shrink the skin's elasticity. So, if a blade penetrates the skin at a slanted angle, the length of the entry is potentially longer than you'd expect."
He widens his eyes, impressed by her wide range of information and knowledge. "So, we measure it by guess?"
"We measure the depth to the nearest mm. But if the skin's shrunk, we can take off up to 2mm. It can shrink as much as 2mm, nothing more."
He nods his head and grins, raising his brow as if to say 'okay, go ahead'. She was pleased to see how impressed he was. Eun needed to prove herself even more to gain his trust.
Chan turned his head the second she began measuring the dimensions of the wound. He was so easily scared off, he just couldn't watch.
"There's one thing you'll be useful for," Eun spoke as she continued measuring, watching how Chan kept himself turned away.
"Yeah?" he hummed, "what's that?"
"I'm sure, just by the dimensions I measure, you'll be able to identify the weapon used, right?"
He dropped his shoulders and turned to her with a nod, "perhaps."
"I noticed in your files..." Eun paused, focusing on her measuring, "...whoever completed the previous autopsies here, they were able to identify the weapons used. There's a chance we can link them together."
"There's a chance we can," he nodded, chewing his nail in thought, "it depends what you can find out from these-"
"180."
Chan glanced over at her and furrowed his brows, "180?"
"180mm. In length."
He widened his eyes almost immediately, shocked by the depth of the wound. "That's more than 17cm."
She nodded at him, "take away the 2mm of elasticity, it's at least 178mm in length."
"A stiletto?" he looked over at her with a puzzled look, "potentially. We've had stilettos before."
Eun knew instantly what he was referring to; stiletto knives. It was an Italian dagger. The tip of the blade was cross-sectioned, it reduces friction against the skin, therefore allowing it to penetrate deeply. It was commonly identified during autopsies, especially around these certain types of people.
"90 degree angle." She stared across at the other victims, eyeing their wounds with squinted eyes. "You know," she began to walk around the tables, "they're all the same."
"Why wouldn't they be?"
"One person couldn't do this. They're the exact same. Not in the same places, but they're the same wounds. There isn't even a minute separated between these victims' deaths."
"The same weapon was used, but you think it wasn't just one person?"
"If there was one person against multiple victims, they'd fight for their lives. They wouldn't have gotten away with it so easily. You think they'd just stand there and wait for their turn?" Eun raised a brow, "there's definitely more than one person."
Hyunjin bursts into the room with Seungmin by his side, quickly turning away at the sight of the bodies lay before them. Hyunjin held his hand over his face as he spoke, trying to distract himself from looking further. "Their vehicle follows out of Gangnam, potentially towards apgujeong-dong."
Eun glances over at Chan for a second, frowning in thought. "That's not too far. Why would they be so close?"
Chan nods, "you're right."
"There's no guarantee they're staying there, it's an assumption we're making. There's a bridge just past there that leads to oksu-dong."
She nods at the two to leave, "thanks."
They leave and Eun is, once again, left alone to talk with Chan. He fans his glare over her and stands himself straight, "you're not suggesting we go over there, are you?"
Eun chews the tips of her fingers, looking up to him as she hums, "perhaps." She was unsure of what decision she should make next, she had to make the most of it. Today, she was in charge. Chan couldn't stop her from getting them over. And that's exactly what she would do.
"Do you know how dangerous that is? If they're this close-"
"I'm not suggesting we go in and start shooting," she sighed, snapping her gloves from her hands and pulling off her mask. "I'm saying..." she started, leaning against the table, "...we know their vehicle, and their registration. That's useful. If we can just find where it's located, we can see where they are, and there's a chance we can get some more clues."
Chan questions her request. He was right, it was a heinous act they were planning on committing. But, this could get them more than one step closer to her father.
"Not all of us can go. We need as few of us as possible."
"I'll start by saying i'm staying behind," he pulled off his gloves and followed you out of the room, "one of us has to stay behind. While you're out, I can look through those files for any connections to what we've found."
"Great," Eun nods, "now I just have to figure out who to take."
The boys were still running their errands, so it gave Eun a chance to think of who she'd take. She had to think wisely. She needed someone with strength, if anything went wrong they were screwed; Changbin. And she needed someone who had knowledge with tracking; Jeongin would stay behind to keep an eye on them through their cameras, so she'd take Felix. Then, she'd only need one other person, someone who was responsible enough with the use of their ammo; Hyunjin.
It was easier to just keep it as the four of them - it wasn't a seriously populated area, so people would grow suspicious if they brought out a van; they'd just take their five seater.
"Are you sure about this?" Chan handed her the keys to the vehicle, Hyunjin, Changbin and Felix stood closely beside her.
"I picked a good team," she winked, "if we don't do this now, they could move out. This is our last chance to find out."
