"Violet..." Charlotte sat down on her bed and I sat next to her, placing my suitcase next to the door. "I-I'm trying so hard not to cry." She put her head down and covered her eyes with their hands.

"Does this have to do with the unification of Flugal and Drossel?" I asked, doing my best to gain more information so that I could help.

"Yes," she lifted her head out of her hands and faced me with tears threatening to fall from her eyes, "before the marriage between me and Damien, Drossel and Flugal had a rapidly deteriorating relationship. It all roots back to the Great War. Even though Drossel and Flugal were both passive and initiated no battles, we were still on opposite sides of the war. Because of this, even after the war there were some people who resented the Kingdom of Flugal and wished war against them. And, even though there was mass support when I was to be married to Damien, there was a small group that protested loudly. When they realized that no matter how loud they spoke, their words would be in vain, they began targeting me and my husband directly. However, since this group is rooted in Drossel and many of its participants are here, I've locked down the entire country so that no one can leave nor come. With this method it is highly probable that I die, but at least it will keep Damien safe"

I thought for a second of what the princess was asking of me. She was completely prepared to die all so that she could protect the person that she loved.

The princess was shaking slightly and her eyes sparkled from the tears that she was desperately trying to hold back. She turned away from me and looked out the window and into the courtyard. She placed her hand on the glass and gazed at the her empty kingdom as if longing for something.

"Princess Charlotte..." I placed my hand on my chest in an attempt to grab my brooch only to realize that I had taken it off, "You will see the person you love again. I'm sure of it"

The Majors last word to me rung in my head "I love you" they said, over and over again. I looked back at the door only to see that my suitcase with my brooch in it was gone.

"Alberta?" I yelled. I heard panicked scurrying from behind the door. The steps were quick and sloppy, unlike Alberta's which were soft and graceful.

"Violet!" I heard Charlotte yell as I swung the door open and pursued the unknown person. Down the hallway, I saw Alberta who was shocked to see me away from Charlotte's room.

"What are you doing here! You should be protecting the princess." Her face contorted into a scowl as she prepared to yell and lecture me.

"Have you seen a suspicious individual around here?" I interrupted.

"Don't you think if I had I would have done something about it? And don't think that I would have missed something. I may have old eyes, but I've been more focused on protecting the princess than anything else."

"Have you seen anyone carrying a suitcase?" I looked around to see if I could find anything suspicious in the vicinity.

"A suitcase? Another one of the servants walked past with a suitcase bu-"

"Where did she go?" I said quickly and sternly.

Alberta sighed and pointed down one of the corridors, "don't get lost, I'll return to the princess's chambers." I ran off without responding. The corridor eventually led to to the castle gates that led back into the city.

"Open the gate." I said to the person manning the equipment, he immediately did so and I ran into the garden that I had passed when entering the castle. As I hurried into the city, my eyes landed on the single violet once again that waved in the wind, bidding me farewell as it left my sight.

Once I left the garden, I saw a woman carrying a suitcase anxiously standing next to a wagon.

"Where is he?" She mumbled to herself.

"Ma'am, I'm sorry to interrupt but-"

"Who are you?" The woman's voice was filled with disgust and disappointment. "I was hoping that if they sent someone it would be a bit more exciting than a little girl."

"My name is Violet, and that is my suitcase. There is something very important to me in there" before I could even finish speaking, she pulled something out of her pocket; my brooch.

"You mean this? It's pretty, not gonna lie. I'm sure it'd sell for quite a bit." The woman giggled and examine the gem closely. "Selling both this and the princess, we could make a fortune and I'll finally be able to abandon those days of servitude to the royal family!"

"The princess is safe, Alberta has returned to her side." The woman looked slightly taken aback by that statement, "now please return my brooch, you may keep the rest."

The woman scowled, "if I can't get my money for the princess, then I'll at least make some money off of your brooch." The woman took a small gun from her pocket and lifted it, aiming for my head. Right as I was about to react, I heard a yell from behind me causing me to swing my head around.

"Violet!" The person yelled. Just after I swung my head around the gun fired and grazed my cheek. The surprise knocked me to the ground although I wasn't phased by the injury. As soon as I hit the ground, I heard footsteps running past me and another gunshot. The footsteps, however, didn't stop. I lifted myself up quickly to see someone with long black hair swinging a punch at the woman and missing. He was knocked to the ground with his face now visible to me.

Leon, I thought to myself, what are you doing here? I didn't waste a moment dwelling on the question as Leon now had the gun aimed at him. I jolted into a standing position and launched myself at the woman, swiftly dodging any attack she threw at me. Panic began to grow on her face as she realized that I wasn't losing this battle as she had expected. I knocked the gun out of her hand and pushed her against the wagon with her face pressed against the window and her arms forced behind her back.

"You're the soldier maiden aren't you?" the woman said with a desperate smirk, "You gonna kill me? You must like killing, right?" I grit my teeth and squinted my eyes.

"Or maybe you don't feel anything at all? Just a blank slate. People did always say you were a tool." Her eyes widened and contorted  in hopes that I would snap.

"I am not a tool." My grip tightened on the woman's arms, "I am a doll; Auto memories doll, Violet Evergarden."
