"H-How..." I bit my lip to stop it from shaking and clutched my hands to stop them from rattling.
"Should I start..." I put my head down in an attempt to gather myself. I quickly wiped the tears from my eyes, feeling the metal against my skin.
"How would you like me to start the letter." I looked up, finally containing my outburst of emotions from the mention of Major Gilbert. When I made eye contact with Leon, I saw that his eyes were wide and his mouth slightly parted as if he were about to say something. We sat in silence for what felt like centuries.
"I- Violet, are you-?"
"He's dead." I blurted out as I stared him dead in the eyes with a flat expression. He was trying to read my emotions, I could see it in his face. The only problem with that was so was I.
"When I first met you I said that I would rather be dead than live in a world without him, but here I am..."
Suddenly, that last words he said to me flashed into my head, along with the gruesome scene of his body on that stair well and smell of blood that would suffocate any normal person.
"Live and be free." I said out loud. I placed my hands back in my lap and laced them together.
"That was his last order to me, so that's what I shall do." I looked up at him and found myself fighting away tears again.
"I shall never kill another person again."
