When Brian asked what was going to happen to the group on Monday, Alex felt his stomach tighten up. What would happen on Monday? He knew what he wanted to happen. He wanted them to say hi to each other. To smile and wave. To laugh and talk.

When everyone started yelling and arguing with each other, Alex was Brian wiping a few tears. He moved so that he was sitting on his stomach and make eye contact with Brian.

"You okay?" He asked. Brian gave a small, weak smile and nodded, before wiping yet another tear. Alex launched himself up off the ground and hugged his new found friend. Then, they started talking about what they had done to get themselves into this mess. Alex, who was wearing pants, a dress shirt, and tie, untied his tie and tossed it behind him. Even for detention he was dressed to impress. He stared at Brian as he talked about the gun. This sweet, innocent boy who seemed like he had the weight of the world on his shoulders had done this to himself? He felt like he needed to ease the tension with his story.

"I cussed out a teacher," he said.

"No way," Claire said, smiling slightly. Alex nodded.

"Yea. He called another student a dweeb and I stood up and told him to fuck off," he said. Brian gave a small but powerful laugh, and Alex felt as though he had never heard something so beautiful.

As the group of six left the school, John and Claire stood kissing, as well as Andrew and Allison. Alex smiled at Brian. Brian smiled back and took his hand in his. They walked to their respective rides.

"Until Monday?" Alex asked.

"Until Monday," Brian replied.
