Zenitsu || Don't forget to smile (angst)

Here's another chapter. Most of these chapters will be angst because I have more prompts for them then any of the other ones. There will be fluffs though. Enjoy!

"Stop being so dramatic Zenitsu, I'll be fine." You said, trying to pry your crying boyfriend off of your leg.

"Let me come with you! I don't want you to get hurt!" He whined, right wing his grip slightly, not enough to hurt you though.

"Don't worry about it! I'll be fine! Tomioka-san is going with me so I'll be okay." You tried reassuring him, but no matter what you said he just wouldn't let go.

"But-but-" He stuttered, looking up at you with puppy eyes as he stared up at you.

"L/N, we have to leave now. Otherwise it'll be dark out by the time we get there." The water pillar said, looking down at the boy with a blank stare.

"Right! Zenitsu..." You crouched down, finally escaping his grasp. You cupped his face, placing a gentle kiss on his forehead before smiling.

"I'll be back before you know it." You said, smiling at him. You pulled him into a quick hug before standing up and walking over to the pillar as you made your way away from the estate.

You turned around and smiled, waving at him.

"Don't forget to smile while I'm gone!"

TIMESKIP

A few days had passed since you left, and today was the day you were meant to come back. Zenitsu shot out of bed as he remembered what day it was.

"Tanjirō~! Guess who's coming back today!!" He yelled, excitement laced in his voice.

"Ah! Isn't L/N-san coming back today?" This made the blonde boy in front of him mod vigorously.

That's when they heard rushed footsteps coming towards the room. The door was slid open aggressively, revealing Inosuke.

"YOU!" He yelled as he pointed at Zenitsu, walking over to the two and grabbing them by their haoris before dragging them along as he ran.

"Inosuke! Where are we going?!" Tanjirō shouted, trying to pry himself away from the boys grasp.

That's when he came to an abrupt stop, making the two boys fall over as he let go of them.

"Hey! What the hell was that fo-" Zenitsu was stopped as he saw the sight before him.

Tomioka was standing right in front of them...

Alone.

Zenitsu shot up, his eyes furrowing in confusion as he watched the water pillars hands come from behind his back.

Time had felt like it stopped as the boy stared at the familiar haori that was sitting in the pillars hands, it was torn and there was dry blood covering the tattered seams. Not only that, but your sword was sitting in his other hand with half of it missing.

"W-what? Where is she?" He whimpered, looking around, trying to find her.

Giyu walked over to the blonde and placed a hand on his shoulder. He took a deep breathe before he spoke.

"I'm sorry. She fought well."

Zenitsu froze, his knees giving out on themselves as collapsed, landing on his knees. His hands clutches at the dirt ground as tears slipped from his eyes.

"Here, I found this in her pocket." The water pillar placed a piece of paper in front of the disheveled boy before placing your haori and sword in front of him.

Zenitsu could only stare at the objects in front of his with a broken gaze.

"Thank you, Tomioka-san." Tanjirō said, receiving a nod in response before he walked away from the small group.

"Zenitsu-" Tanjirō was cut off.

"Just...Please leave me alone." Zenitsu choked out as he hung his head low.

Tanjirō nodded at Inosuke before they both walked away from him. Leaving him by himself.

With shaky hands, he picked up the paper and slowly unfolded it. He read through it, sobs escaping his throat as he let it drop. He ran his fingers through his own hair, tearing at the roots as he let out a pained scream.

'Zenitsu~!

I'm writing you this just in case one day I don't make it back from a mission. Though I hope it won't happen any time soon.

I just want to let you know that I love you so much! My love for you is ten times every single star in the sky!

I know you're going to cry, a lot. Like A LOT. That's okay though! You're allowed to cry.

Just as long as you can still stand up afterwards and carry on. Become stronger, you are surrounded by people who love and care about you.

I'm gonna miss you though. So much.

Thank Tanjirō for me, thank him for bringing you back safely to me after every mission. Thank him for looking after you while I am gone.

And tell Inosuke that I want him to stop hitting you all the time. He's such a big meanie and he's going to seriously hurt you one of these days!
