You stared up at the dark sky above you. The stars shone brightly as your breathing slowed down.

The blood dropped from the corner of your mouth and poured out of the gash in your stomach.

It wasn't supposed to end like this...

1 HOUR BEFORE

Tanjiro has dragged you along with him, Zenitsu and Inosuke for a mission in the middle of the forest.

Much to your obligation they forced you to walk miles and miles with them. Your legs burned, you weren't used to this.

Yes, you walked a lot but never this far because you normally got chosen for the missions much closer to home.

"Uuugghhh!! How much longer till we get there?" You whined, dragging your feet across the ground.

"We're almost there Y/N-chan, don't worry." Tanjiro turned around and smiled gently at you.

You nodded and continued to drag yourself after them.

TIMESKIP

Everything went wrong.

You and Inosuke were separated from the other two, and both of you were surrounded.

You were backed up against each other, watching the demons surrounding you.

"Inosuke..." You said, gripping your sword with shaky hands.

"I know...you need to jump up into the trees." He whispers, gripping the fabric of he back of your haori.

"No, you have to. Go find Tanjiro and Zenitsu and bring them back here. After you jump up I'll follow you." You say, not taking your eyes off of the monsters around you.

"Hell no, they'll attack you the moment I take my foot off the ground." He growls, glaring at them.

"Trust me Inosuke...Please..." You say, gently cupping his hand with yours.

He looked back at you, staring at you through his mask. He hesitated before turning back to face the demons.

You knew this wouldn't end well, you were going to die. You had no intention of following him up into the trees, you couldn't.

They wouldn't let you.

You turned back with tears pricking at the corner of your eyes as you swallowed the lump in your throat.

"Jump, and make a run for it. I'll follow you." You say, holding the handle of your Nichirin sword tightly.

Little did he know, you were telling white lies.

He nodded and crouched down, getting ready to jump. You watched the demons carefully, more tears filling your eyes.

"Go." You breathed out.

He jumped at your word, shooting himself up into the trees and running as fast as he could and running as fast as he could.

The moment he jumped, they lunged forward, grabbing at your arms and legs.

He didn't know you weren't following him.

END OF FLASHBACK

Now here you were, you had fought them off as best as you could before they scattered. The sun was rising and the small rays of sun kissed your features.

You couldn't talk, it hurt too much.
You couldn't hear anything either.
Your vision was blurry.
Your left leg was missing.
The gash in your stomach kept bleeding out.
Deep scratches covered your body.
Your right arm was broken.
Your throat had been crushed.
Your haori was ripped to shreds.
Your uniform was stained dark red.
Your Nichirin sword was snapped in half.
You couldn't move.
And breathing was getting harder.

Your lifeless eyes stared up at the tinted blue sky. The sun peered through the trees, the darkness finally submitting to the light.

That's when you saw a shadow above you.

You looked at the figure and saw the outline of a boy. Your vision was blurry but you could make out the scruffy boar head.

You couldn't hear anything, but by the looks of him tearing the boar head off and crouching down, shaking your shoulders gently.

You could see his mouth moving but you didn't hear anything he was saying.

You could see the visible panic subsiding on his face. Tears filled both his and your eyes.

All you wanted was to hear his voice one last time before you died. All you wanted was to reach out to him and hold him.

But life isn't a fairytale.

He gently cupped your face, his tears falling onto your bloodied cheeks.

You could make out your name falling from his lips. You smiled sadly up at his as you stared at him with an empty expression.

"I....." Your scratchy voice echoed through his ears.

"Love...."

"You..."

Then your body went limp, the life that was left in your eyes finally disappearing.

Inosuke sobbed harder, holding your lifeless body close to him. Your blood stained his skin and he cried, holding the love of his life in his arms.

'If I could change one thing...I would hear your voice...one last time.'
