Coffee Girl

What can I say!? Breakups are never easy. After all these years, it's still surprises me how fast people can fall in love and how fast they can fall out of it.

I guess that happened to me and Joe too. It's early January, it's been almost a month since our breakup. I though I was over him but I heard rumors about him being with another girl. It just hurts. It's not jealousy. It's not because I miss him and want him back, not at all. It's because I miss the though of him and it's a big difference.

It's Wednesday and I finished at the studio 20 minutes ago. I was sitting in my car and was about to drive back home, when I decided to do a little detour. I left my car in the parking lot and I walked in the direction of the little cafè.

I put my earphones in and I pressed the "play" button on my phone. I was listening to my favourite song. Joe never really liked it because he never got the meaning behind it.

"What can I get for you?" asked one of the most beautiful girls I've ever seen when I was next in line.

The woman was mesmerizing. She had no makeup on, her long Y/H/C hair was up in a ponytail. She wore a high wasted denim and a simple white T-shirt with a nametag on it. It said Y/N. A pretty name to a pretty girl.

"I would like a Caramel Latte without cream, please" I smiled back at her.

"Anything else ma'am?"

"That would be all, thank you" I thanked her and started to search for my wallet in my bag.

"Can I have your name?"

"Oh, yeah, of course. It's Taylor" I was surprised she didn't know. In the past few weeks the only thing you could see on magazines or hear at the radio was that me and Joe broke up.

I was so happy she didn't recognize me. She treated me like I was just a normal girl in the cafè. To be honest, it feels so good to have a normal conversation with someone, even if it was only about coffee.

Once she finished writing my name on the cup, she turned back to face me and gave me the most beautiful smile in the world.

"It's gonna be 4.50$" she said and I handed her 20$.

"Keep the change."

"But that's a lot, girl! Are you sure about that?"

"Only with one condition" I giggled.

"And what would that be?" she laughed at my cheesiness.

"You drink a coffee with me. Come one, it's only 10 minutes."

I can tell she was surprised at first. My heart was beating in my ears, I was afraid of her answer.

"I'll ask my boss if I could leave a little bit earlier today. Go and sit somewhere!" and I did what she told me to do.

I chose a bunk far from the counter. I looked down at my feet. I was wearing one of my favourite high heals. He didn't like it when I wore high heels, I thought. But I don't think he ever liked me at all.

"Here you are, I finally found you. Seriously, you picked out the most outlying bunk here" she sat down right in front of me and handed me my latte.

"Maybe that was my intention. Anyways, I've never gotten your name. Yeah, of course I saw it on your name tag, but I wanna hear it from you." she laughed at my statement. It's a good sign, isn't it?

"I'm Y/N." she took a sip of her - I suppose - hot chocolate.

She was laughing so hard at a joke I told her two minutes ago. It was adorable and weird at the same time. It was weird because he never found me funny at all. He never laughed at any of my jokes. But Y/N was different. She was so different from him.

"So Taylor, you work as a singer. Looks like a pretty famous one because literally the 10th girl's taking a secret photo of you right now. I was wondering which artists are the famous singers' favorites?"

"I'm a big James Taylor fan" I mumbled.

"There's no way. I have like a hundred records of him at home"

"Well, if you have a hundred, I have like a thousand" I put a proud smile on my face.

"I've never met a girl who had as many James Taylor records as I do."

"Looks like it's your lucky day, Y/N!"

"You think?" she leaned closer to me and I did the same. Our lips were only inches away from each other.

"Yes." I was waiting for her to kiss me but she just smiled at me.

"You seemed to be sad when you came in the cafè today. Did something happen?" I took a deep breath and looked down at the ground.

I wanted to say something about Joe but Y/N saw a snowman on the street and she looked at me with the most adorable look in her eyes.

"Do you wanna build a snowman? Come on, let's go and play!" she started singing the famous song. She's surprisingly good at singing. "I'm sorry, it's just... I always watch Frozen with my family on Christmas Eve. I couldn't help it, the song just popped in my head immediately. But back to my question, was something wrong?"

And that was the moment when I knew I won't talk about Joe anymore. What's past is past.

"I missed my morning coffee so I was tired and grumpy all day" I stopped next to my car. "But I'm glad I decided to grab a latte at 5pm" I winked at her and her cheeks turned red.

"I'm glad you did come today as well."

"When will I see you again?"

"Can I have your phone for a second?" Y/N asked and I handed it to her.

She opened my contacts and added a new one. She wrote her number in and started to think about something. Her thinking face was cute.

About two minutes later she gave my phone back to me. I looked down to it to see what took her so long. She changed her contact name to "Coffee Girl☕"

I loved it.

A big smile appeared on my face. I sent her a quick "hello" so she could have my number too.

"I will call you, Coffee Girl" I winked at her and drove away.

I haven't felt these feelings in ages. I couldn't stop thinking about her. About her smile, her laugh, about her look, her smell. About the stories she told me, about her voice. My heart started to beat faster, my palms started to sweat and I could feel the butterflies in my stomach. To tell the truth, I though I could never fall for anybody right after I got out of a 2-year long relationship. But on a Wednesday in a café I watched it begin again.
