[chapter twelve]

[her; Alex Alvarez]

I was sitting next to Alex while he was talking to Victor along with Abuelita and Elena. To be honest I'm not the biggest fan of Victor but I put up with him for Alex's sake. Once Lupe got home Abuelita explained that they were talking to Victor. Lupe and Victor said hi to each other and almost immediately after Lupe asked Abuelita for help in the kitchen. I didn't want to see Victor so I went to help her but Alex pulled me back down so I sent Elena to help. Abuelita thought that Victor's dog was a camel and it was really funny. Abuelita left us to talk to Victor but it was a good thing Elena had came back. Alex decided that he wanted to play the cello for Victor and insisted that play my viola with him since Victor couldn't be at the recital. Just before we were about to start Lupe asked what we were doing and Alex explained it to her. Once we were done Abuelita made a witty comment about how we are geniuses. "It makes more sense when the other three people are playing. I wish you could be here." Alex told his father. Victor went off about how it would be cool if he could do the Star Trek thing. As he was talking there was a knock on the door so I went over to open it. "Woah it worked. I was aiming for the living room I just missed." Victor said coming through the door. I was surprised and shocked. Alex came running jumping into his arms pushing them out the door. Victor made a comment about how Alex grew. And he did at least from the last time Victor saw him. Elena awkwardly hugged him while Alex was still hugging him. Alex got down and Victor hugged Elena making a comment about how she must be breaking all the boys hearts. Elena had nervously laughed while I went over to Abuelita and said, "Not necessarily." Making Abuelita hit my arm. "Looking good, viejita. Vente pa' ca. Dame un be so." He said coming over to Abuelita making her chuckle. They hugged and Lupe made a witty comment breaking them before he came over to me. "Aaliyah, you've grown so much. How've you been?" "Hey! I've been good." I said hugging him awkwardly. He went over to Lupe and said Hi. Lupe went off on him explaining that she didn't get ay messages or texts telling her that he was coming early. He explained to her that he wanted to surprise Alex. "Que nice, que thoughtful, Kay jewelers. They sell engagement rings." Abuelita said hinting that they should get back together. Victor explained that he booked a hotel and Lupe said that they weren't expecting him so they weren't ready. "Can papi stay her, mami?" Alex asked and Penelope ageed

Abuelita being herself was ready for him and  told him that he can stay in her "room" and she will sleep with Lupe. I went over to Alex and told him I was going back to my apartment. He pulled me into a hug and kissed my forehead and said, "Bye I'll see you tomorrow." And with that I left.

[Time skip]

It was the next morning and I went to Alex's room via our windows. I was laying on his bed waiting for him to finish changing and do his hair. He had his shirt off when I came in but it's okay its not the first time I've seen him shirtless. Ew not like that you dirty minded person. Once he was ready we walked out to see Victor made clown pancakes. "Clown pancakes. What." Alex said high fiving Victor while I scream clown pancakes and ran over to my plate. Elena had said something but i was to busy eating to hear what she said. My ears decided to work when Victor said something surprising. "I have something for you guys," He went to his room and came back with 3 presents. "Even something for you, Aaliyah." He added looking at me. I squealed being happy that he got me something too. You know he isn't that bad. He handed Alex his present and immediately ripped it open not even asking his mom first. He got a PS4, what luckyyy. Alex hugged his dad and thanked him.  Lupe expalined that he can keep it but if he gets in trouble it goes on the top shelf no one can reach. He thanked his mom and we both said ,"RIP super soaker." I wasn't listening to anything else they were saying. I was to busy thinking what my present could be and eating my pancakes. Elena had gotten a princess doll and it was really awkward. It was finally my turn, he gave me my gift and I opened it. It was a Starbucks gift card and a Nintendo Switch. I screamed and ran over to him and thanked him. We had to leave to go to school so we grabbed our stuff and left.

[Time skip]

Alex and I were getting ready for the recital and getting all the nerves out of our system when we got bad news. Mrs. Aaron's van got a flat when she was moving our instruments. "How are we gonna play without our instruments?" I asked Alex sadly. "I don't know but lets go talk to my mom and Schneider. We ran over to them and explained everything. A guy working at the old folks home explained that the recital is cancel. "I really wanted to show you in front of everybody. You never get to be here for my stuff." Alex told his dad while walking away and pulling me with him. Victor started talking to Dad about retrieving the instruments. Dad agreed but made it awkward by calling Victor Dad, he corrected him self and quickly ran over to us telling us to go to the car.

When we finally got back to the nursing home with our instruments to see Lupe and Victor singing karaoke. We went on the stage and Victor introduced our quartet, "I couldn't be prouder to introduce the St. Bibiana String Quartet, Staring Cello and Viola superstars, Alex Alvarez and Aaliyah Valdez. Everyone clapped and we stared playing. I looked up and saw Victor and dad mouthing things to each other. When we were done everybody clapped and Alex and I went to our family. Alex asked if I wanted to go home with them but I told him that I wanted to spend time with Dad and that I'll go to him later. In reality I didn't want to intrude on his time with his dad and I did want to spend time alone with my dad.

Dad and I decided to go get ice cream and watch a movie at home. First we went to get ice cream. I got Cookies and Cream and He got Mint Chip. When we got home we watched all the Home Alone movies. The last movie had ended and we were talking about random stuff when we heard Victor and Lupe yelling from their living room. We live right above them so it was really easy to hear them yell. I looked at Dad scared 'cause I hate when people yell. He looked at me and brought me into a hug and told me to go to bed so I don't have to hear it as much. I did what he told me to and went to my room. I laid down in my bed and put my earbuds in and played my music to blockout the yelling. It eventually stopped and I took my earbuds out and fell asleep. What fun day, except for the part when they yelling. I love this family. Yes I call them family, I've practically known them my whole life.
