The six of us are scattered across the living room, The Hangover playing quietly on the TV. I'm busy tracing the muscles of Thay's chest and stomach underneath his t-shirt, enjoying the increasing rate of his heartbeat and hearing his breath stop in his throat. Molly's already passed out in Vinnie's arms, her soft snores barely making a sound. Kaitlyn and and Dax are on the ground, but just because we can't see them making out doesn't mean we can't hear them.
A pounding on the front door startles all of us, and Molly yelps as her eyes fly open. I can smell who it is right away, and it's harder to ignore how enticing the scent is then I want to let on. "You've got to be fucking kidding me," I growl, unwrapping myself from Thay's arms and marching to the front door. The anger inside of me is increasing with every second, and it quadruples when I swing the door open.
"Did you follow me?" I all but yell. The alcohol still in my system is enough to still make my brain a bit fuzzy, but it's helping with the amount of anger flowing through my veins. I ignore the fact that everyone's eyes are on me from the living room as I cross my arms across my chest and wait for his response.
He stands there leaning back against the porch railing. He's changed out of his formal attire into dark jeans and a tight fighting black t-shirt. I can see through the thin fabric that's he practically built of pure muscle, but I don't know what else I would expect of an alpha. I watch as his eyes scan me up and down. He doesn't even try and hide the fact that he's checking me out.
"You're my mate. Of course I followed you," Maddox chuckles. Is this some kind of joke to him?
"What part did you not understand of 'I don't want a mate'? Do I need to spell it out for you, because I will," I snap.
"Sweetheart, you can't get rid of me that easily," he smirks. I notice how dark his eyes are, and I hate the way they're looking at me.
"If you don't leave right now, I will knee you in the balls again. This is the only warning you're getting this time," I warn, my voice dangerously low. I feel a satisfaction high when the corners of his mouth drop just a little. It's not much, but it's a victory for me.
"I don't even know your name, sweetheart," he says. I close my eyes, let out a furious breath that flares my nostrils, and reopen my eyes.
"If I tell you my name, will you leave and stop calling my sweetheart?" I bargain through gritted teeth, struggling to keep my voice in check. I was having a fun night with my friends after my first encounter with him, and I just want him to leave so I can go back to enjoying myself.
Maddox looks surprised that I'm making a deal with him, but he barely lets it show. The way his eyes widen ever so slightly give him away. He nods in agreement, but that's not good enough for me. I need more than just a nod to believe him.
"You promise?" I say, my tone deadly serious. I'm not messing around, and he needs to know that.
"I promise," he says, though I can tell he's reluctant.
"Harper. My names Harper."
"Harper," he says, and I hate that a shiver runs down my spine at the sound of him saying my name. It sounded so smooth coming off his lips, and I slam the door in his face before I let myself get carried away. I hear a growl from the other side, and the dreamy thoughts I had a second ago are gone.
I huff and turn around, ignoring everyone's looks as head into the kitchen. I grab a bottle of tequila and rejoin Thay on the couch. I don't want to talk about what just happened, and I hope they don't bring it up. I just want to continue enjoying my night with my friends and get so drunk until I can't remember why I wanted to get so drunk in the first place.

I wake up the next morning with a dry throat and a pounding headache. I roll over in Thay's arms, and his eyes pop open. "Good morning," I whisper, a soft smile taking over my lips. Thay's dark hair is going in all directions, and his eyes hold a groggy look to them. He's attractive at all times of day, but my favorite look of his is when he just wakes up. I softly run a finger along his forehead and down the side of his face, because I know he loves it when I do that.
"Morning," he smiles back, tilting his head forward just a little to meet my lips. I can still taste the alcohol on his breath from last night. Or maybe it's me.
"I think I'm still a little drunk," I whisper against his lips, and then I giggle.
Thay pulls away, his eyebrows raised in amusement. "You are definitely still drunk," he says. "You are going to have one hell of a hang over later."
I groan at the mention of a hangover. I don't want to think of hangovers right now. Thay chuckles and sits up, holding onto me tightly so I don't roll of the couch when he moves. "You stay here. I'll get some coffee and breakfast going," he says.
I smile at him, closing my eyes as he plants his lips on my forehead. I know I'm a total invincible badass, but even I have a soft spot when it comes Thay. As much as I hate to admit it, he fills my stomach with butterflies. Talk about cliche.
He pushes himself off the couch and over the back of it, heading into the kitchen. I think about falling back asleep, but I decide against it since I'll want plenty of sleep later when all the alcohol from last night has worn off.
I pull myself up to a sitting position and and turn around, pulling my legs in. I rest my arms along the back of the couch and my chin on my hands, watching Thay work quietly in the kitchen with a smile on my face. He gets a pot of coffee going first, and it's not long before I can smell it. He takes out two cartons of eggs from the fridge, and the first loud noise he makes is pulling out a large frying pan from one of the cabinets. I cringe away from the sound. He looks up at me sheepishly as someone groans.
"Shut up," Vinne mutters. I turn my gaze to him and Molly, and it's hard to tell who's body part is who's. They're tangled together under a blanket on the opposite side of the couch. Both of their eyes are closed, but it's easy to tell that they're both awake.
"Yeah, shut up," Molly hums in agreement, snuggling her face into Vinnie's neck. I don't miss the small smile that appears on his lips as he wraps his arms around her body to pull her closer.
I turn my attention back to Thay and watch him work around the kitchen. He pulls out some bacon and cooks it alongside the eggs, and he starts toasting an entire loaf of bread, four slices at a time. His back is to me as he tends to the eggs and bacon, so he doesn't notice me admiring him. I smile as he jumps back when the bacon spits some grease at him, but I don't make a sound.
I love watching Thay when he doesn't realize I'm watching him, because he gets so focused on whatever he's doing without me distracting him. I love distracting him too, but there's something so attractive about him when he's so focused on making everything perfect. Even something as simple as breakfast.
It's right now, as he takes the eggs off the stove and starts dishing me a plate, smiling at me when he realizes my eyes are on him, that I wish, not for the first time, that Thay was my mate.
