Blaire's POV
I watch intently as Ryder exits the bakery. He was holding a plastic bag full of bread. He walks back over to me, "Let's go."
I only nod, as we got on his motorcycle. I haven't said anything yet, I've just been trying to figure our where we were going.
And my thoughts were answered, when Ryder parks the motor in front of the town's police station.
"What're we doing---"
Ryder clamps a hand over my mouth, stopping me from finishing my sentence, "Questions later, princess." He gives me a small smile, adjusting the hood of the hoodie I was wearing, "Don't say anything. And keep that hood over your head, got it?"
I only nod.
We walk into the police station. Ryder walks over to a policeman who was right in front of the entrance, "Here." He hands him the bag of bread, "For Clara Coleman, tell her its from Ryder."
The man nods, walking deeper into the jailhouse. Ryder then wraps his arm around me, leading me back to his motorcycle.
"Who's Clara?"
"Questions later, princess," He says, as we got on the bike. He starts the bike, and we drove off. Our next stop was an unfamiliar looking house. "You can ask questions when we get inside, alright?"
I nod, and we walk into the house. Ryder doesn't even knock, he just goes for the doorknob and twists it. He opens the door, and we walk in.
A dude appears in front of us, "Dang dude, would it kill you to knock?" He asks Ryder.
He looked like he was in his early twenties. He was a few inches taller than Ryder, he had shaggy blonde hair and light green eyes. He didn't look ugly at all.
"Sorry, knocking isn't in my dictionary." Ryder shrugs.
Only then did the guy notice me, "And who are you?"
I open my mouth, but Ryder speaks first, "Leave her alone, Shawn."
He raises his hands in defense, "Okay, fine, sheesh." He rolls his eyes before walking away.
"Let's go." Ryder says into my ear. He leads me into a random room. He makes himself comfortable on the bed, "C'mere."
I cautiously walk over to him, sitting in front of him, so we're face to face.
Ryder reaches up, and removes the hood from over my head. He then sighs, "I know those unanswered questions are killing you. Go ahead, ask."
"First things first; where are we?" I ask.
"We're in Shawn's house. He's an old friend of mine. I come here every time dad kicks me out of the house." He shrugged, like he didn't care, but his frown said otherwise.
Oh, so it wasn't the first time he was kicked out? What kind of father did they have?
"Who's Clara?"
He sighs, looking down, "My mom."
My eyes widened, "What? But... I've seen your mom, she---"
"Is my stepmother," He finishes for me. "That chick is nice and all, but she ain't my mom. My real mom's in jail."
"Why?" I ask. "Its okay of you don't tell me though."
He chuckles, "I wanna tell you. I wanna let it all out." He decides, "Okay before, a couple of years ago, my dad was a worthless piece of shit who wouldn't get his ass off the couch to look for a job. My mom was struggling on too many jobs, which obviously didn't pay well. She didn't know what to do. One day though, this asshole showed up and offered her a job." He sighs, "let's just say that it wasn't exactly a legal job."
"Oh..."
"It paid well. Enough to pay for everything." He says, "she eventually got caught, and went to jail. The next week, dad was engaged. The rest is history."
"You miss her don't you?"
"Hell yeah, I do. We all do. Well, everyone besides dad." A humorless laugh leaves his lips, "Its just... dad and I never had a steady relationship. I was always the hard-headed son he didn't want." He admits, "He always liked Myles' brains and Ian's outgoingness. I on the other hand, am the 'disapoinment'," he quotes. "That prick even tried disowning me a couple of times."
I didn't say anything, I just placed my hand over his in comfort.
A small smile met his lips, "Mom always saw good in me though," and then that smile vanished, "she saw good that wasn't even there."
"That's not---"
"Its true." He cuts me off, "life's just so unfair. Everyone sees my flaws, my mistakes. But if Myles breaks something, fuck, even if Ian sleeps with my girlfriend, it goes so fucking unnoticed."
"Ian did that?"
"Yeah," he sighs. "He gets everything he wants. I actually thought that she loved me. Fuck, I'm an idiot. But its cool, Ian and I are passed that," He shrugs, "I'll admit I still don't forgive him for it, I never will." He then looks at me, "You won't tell anyone this, will you?" He silently pleads with his eyes, making me melt in the spot.
"I won't," I promise him. "And I'm... I don't know what to say, I'm sorry."
"There's nothing to say." He holds my waist, moving me to sit on his lap, "I'm just glad you listened." He plants a small kiss on my temple, "Thank you."
I smile, resting my head on his shoulder, wrapping me arms around him, "You're welcome."
"Ian's not getting everything. Not this time." He murmurs, but I here him. "I'll show him. He won't forget it."
