"I can't believe we're halfway through summer already." Kia cries, "I still have no idea where I want to go." We're staked out at her house once again, allowing us to soak up the peace and quiet that it provides.
"When are your parents back?" I ask, slightly off piece but I'm intrigued.
"Next week." She groans in reminder of their return, clearly living by herself hasn't been all bad.
"Hey, have you still not heard anything from Blake?" Kia questions, suddenly remembering the story I had recounted to her nearly a week ago.
"Absolutely nothing." I huff in frustration, "I hate guys."
Kia chuckles at this, "No you don't. Remember that Nate guy from sixth form?" I squeal at his name knowing exactly what she's about to follow this with,
"I still can't believe you lost your virginity to him in a tent. A freaking tent!"
"Dear god, please don't remind me." I giggle and attempt to bury my face in the blanket on her bed. My face burns up at this mortifying piece of information and I can hear Kia cackling at my expense in the background.
"I was so pissed that night." I grumble underneath the blanket and I can mentally see Kia nodding her head in agreement at this. I slowly emerge from the blanket when I think that Kia has finally stopped giggling at my stupidness and find her sat on the floor with a laptop on her lap.
"What are you up to?" I question her, as I slide down beside her.
"Looking at universities." Kia answers quietly and I groan,
"I know it's the last thing you want to do right now, but maybe we can find one that's not too far away, you know at least then we could commute." I stay quiet at her hopefulness too terrified to bring up the prospect of going on the volunteer programme and leaving my best friend behind. Instead I simply agree and settle my head on her shoulder as she begins to chat on about different universities that offer the courses, we both want.
After an hour of mindless scrolling my eyeballs feel like they're about to drop right out of my head. I've resorted to allowing sarcastic sighs leave my mouth every thirty seconds and I'm pretty sure Kia is close to breaking. As I inhale, ready to release yet another sarcastic breath, Kia pushes the laptop off of her lap and springs up,
"Ok ok fine I'll stop looking." She cries and I punch the air in a mock win.
"I might text Jake and see what him and Blake are up to." She taunts and my eyebrows fly off of my face.
"No Kia. Don't you dare!" I cry and she dives for her ensuite bathroom, pushing the door shut and sliding the lock across. I hammer on the door in defeat,
"Kia, I swear to god you're going to regret this!" I yell at her from the other side of the door. The last person I want to see right now is Blake, for all I know he's embarrassed by what nearly happened and never wants to see me again.
"I can hear you overthinking from in here." Kia calls from inside the bathroom.
"Kia, I don't know if he even wants to see me." I voice my concern.
The door creaks open a few moments later,
"Well if he doesn't then Jake would've said he didn't want us to come over." Kia smiles sneakily.
"What?" I question, once again feeling a bit clueless.
"I texted Jake and he said that Blake and him were about to have a BBQ at Blake's and that we should come over." I give her the most sarcastic look I can muster but Kia simply flips me the bird and stalks towards her dressing table, fishing out her makeup bag.
