"Blake are you nearly ready?" I call from the bottom of his staircase; I can hear scuffling from his bedroom and when I don't get a reply back, I decide to head up and see what he's doing.
I find Blake with his head half buried underneath his bed, his left arm reaching for something,
"Uhm Blake, what are you doing?" I ask, but my presence seems to shock him so much that he recoils quickly and smacks his head on the underside of his bed.
"Ow shit." He curses as he sits on the floor rubbing his head.
"Sorry I didn't mean to scare you." I apologise as I offer him a hand to pull him up off of the floor.
"I was trying to find my old Monopoly board, but I think I must've thrown it out at some point." He sighs as he goes to grab his bag,
"You ready?" He asks.
We were supposed to have been at Kia's house twenty minutes ago but between Blake and I's faffing we are, of course, late.
"Well seems as we're already running behind..." I begin innocently, "Will you play for me?" I ask. Blake looks surprised at my request and I giggle, "I told you I think you're amazing."
Blake shakes his head, but I can see a ghost of a smile playing at his lips,
"Only because I can't say no to you."
He heads towards the corner of the room and picks up his old beaten guitar, before settling on a chair and strumming a few notes experimentally. As he starts to play an unfamiliar tune Blake zones out and his eyes close as if he's entirely at peace. I fish my phone out from my pocket and click it to record as lyrics start to pour from his mouth, the sound resonating around the room. Both of us sit, only a small distance apart, but I feel like Blake is sat right beside me as the words echo about. As he breaks from his trance and the song slowly ends, Blake notices my phone and frowns slightly,
"What are you doing?" He asks a little coldly.
"Documenting your talent." I answer simply, turning the recording off and putting my phone away, "If no one else gets to see it; I at least want to be able to listen to you sing when you're not around." I smile.
With his guitar stored away once again, Blake encircles his arms around me,
"You miss me that much hey?" I blush when I realise what I admitted and Blake just chuckles.
"You can keep it, but only if you don't show anyone it?" He says seriously.
"I promise." I smile giving him a delicate kiss on the nose before breaking away from him, "Now we better get going before Jake and Kia start coming up with ideas of where we are."
I hear Blake's low laugh from behind me, we both know we're not going to hear the end of it when we finally get there.
As I pull open the front door of Kia's house, I can already hear her laughter from the living room. Blake and I make our way inside to find Jake and Kia laid out across the sofa with After Life playing on the tv.
"So, you finally decided to show!" Kia cries dramatically, "Better have been a good fuck." She adds as she turns off the TV.
Blake splutters awkwardly and Jake sits on the sofa glancing between us, in what I take is surprise.
"We didn't..." But Kia cuts me off,
"Yeh yeh whatever, let's get this shit going I'm starving." She says as she waves the pizza menu in her hands.
"You already know what I'll have." I remind her as I settle on the floor.
"Yeh because you're a monster." Kia huffs.
"What do you have?" Blake asks curiously and I groan. This gives Kia a reason to vent about my choice of pizza topping.
"PINEAPPLE. On pizza." She cries as if my choice is a crime.
"Pineapple? Really?" Blake laughs, "That's disgusting."
"Woah, two against one. That's not fair!" I throw my hands up and look to Jake for support, "What side are you on Jake?" I ask him but Jake seems completely in his own little world, not listening to a word I'm saying.
"Jakeeee." I call, waving my hand in front of his face, he seems to return back to us suddenly,
"Sorry um what did I miss?" He answers strangely and I can't help but feel as if there's something off with him.
Blake and Kia continue with their argument over pineapple on pizza, which at this point has turned into a hate club against my pizza topping choice, as I silently observe Jake who is pretending to be participating in the conversation. His hands grip his bottle tightly and a gnawing feeling tells me it's something that I shouldn't try to approach right now.
Ignoring my gut instinct, I turn back to the two currently bonding over their shared hatred of my pizza choice.
"So, are we ordering these or not?" I ask.
With the pizza boxes emptied and a horror on the tv the four of us have settled onto the two sofa's, Kia and Jake take one, whilst me and Blake are huddled together on the other. The tv screen displays IT and I can hear cries of fear come from Kia now and again.
"You can hug me if you're scared." Blake teases, winking at me.
"I've already seen this film twice but if the big, creepy clown scares you, I don't mind hugging you either." I answer confidently back, winking just to damage his ego a little more.
"You stole my move." Blake cries quietly, trying not to disturb the others.
"What are you going to do about it?" I giggle and Kia shoots me a dirty look to indicate that I'm interrupting her film.
"Sorry Kia, I told her that it's ok to be scared." Blake huffs sarcastically as he pulls me into a hug, wrapping the blanket around me and sheltering us from prying eyes.
"This is what I'm going to do." He answers before applying soft kisses down my neck and along my collarbone. I pathetically attempt to swat him away, but his laughter against my skin only adds to the effect this boy has on me. I turn eventually to face him, our lips meeting for a few moments before I turn back to face the tv. Situating myself between Blake's legs, I lean back against his chest for support, a small sigh of contentedness coming from Blake.
As we watch the film, I feel Blake's hands find their way to my hair, his fingers combing through it and playing with it unconsciously. My body relaxes and suddenly I'm a lot more tired than I had been at the start of the film. I struggle to keep my eyes open as IT once again jumps out and scares the kids, I curse them silently for being so damn stupid to begin with. Getting a little bored of the film I promise myself that I'm just going to rest my eyelids for a few moments but as I close them sleep quickly shrouds me entirely.
