Shikamaru's POV
"Come on Shika, pleaseeeeee."
"No. It's too troublesome. And besides, I don't meddle in things that aren't my business."
She groaned through the phone. Ino was trying to get me to set up the rest of our friends for the dance that was in five days. Naruto and Hinata were obviously going together, and I had asked Ino already. "Come on. You don't have to do much! Just give them a little push!"
Now it was my turn to groan. "Alright. Fine." I hung up. Ugh. What a drag. I can't believe I actually agreed to that. I could never resist her for too long, and she knew it.
I got out of bed with ten minutes until my first period class started. Not that it mattered, Kakashi-sensei wouldn't be there anyway. After procrastinating, I arrived to my homeroom only one minute before he did, and took my usual seat in the back next to Sasuke and Neji.
"Alright class." Kakashi said when he finally walked in. "Today you have a review day for your exam. For this class that will be on Wednesday morning."
"Exam?!" Half of the class yelled. "But we haven't even learned anything!"
But Kakashi wasn't listening; he was already knee deep in Itcha Itcha-whatever its called.
I turned to Neji and Sasuke, deciding that this was the perfect opportunity to nudge them. Ugh. I hate every part of this.
"Hey guys." They looked up at me.
"What." Sasuke asked, or said more-like.
"When are you guys gonna ask Tenten and Sakura to that dance?" Forward, but it worked. They tried to hide it, but I could see both of their faces turning slightly pink at the question.
"I wasn't." Sasuke answered. Neji nodded in agreement.
"Well, to be honest, I'm kind of surprised they haven't been asked already. There's a ton of guys who would want to go with them." To prove my point, I glanced at a group of boys eyeing the girls. Their eyes followed my gaze. "You don't want someone else to ask them, do you?"
Both of their eyes widened slightly. Bingo. I just had to make one final push. "And besides, if you two don't go with anybody, you'll surely be killed by fan girls at the dance. And face it. You wouldn't want to go with anybody else. Am I correct?"
I laid out the perfect argument. If they didn't ask the girls, there was now way it would be my fault. Ino couldn't blame me for not trying. I smirked at the two ice boxes. My job here is done.
At the same time, Sasuke and Neji pulled out their phones and texted the girls. Seriously? They're texting them? What wimps. At least I did it like a man. Sort of...
Sakura turned around in her desk to face Sasuke. "You know I'm like, right here, right?" She joked.
Sasuke just sat with his usual serious face. "Well?"
She smiled. "Sure."
Tenten turned around from her desk a few rows up. "Me too." She said to Neji, also smiling.
Ino turned around and gave me a thumbs up. Her look told me, Thanks Shika!
I eyed her back. You seriously owe me.
She smirked and turned back around in her seat and continued to study. I decided that maybe I should do the same for once.
--------
The rest of the week went by pretty smoothly, our exams started the next day (Wednesday) and went on till Friday. It turns out the only studying I did was the ten minutes or so during English/homeroom. The girls refused to leave the library practically all week in preparation for the tests. Hinata had tutored Naruto enough to maybe help him get a B in most subjects, which to be honest was pretty miraculous. Neji and Sasuke probably didn't need to study, but they still did. They were surprisingly pretty competitive when it came to class ranks.
The exams were as annoying and troublesome as you'd expect. I didn't really have much trouble with the problems, just my ability to stay awake. But after I had finally finished my Calculus exam (the last one) I decided that I would go to sleep and not wake up all weekend.
I walked out of class and toward lunch with Sakura, Neji, and Tenten like usual.
"Oh my God I so failed that!" Tenten complained. She then started asking me what the answers on the back page were. I shrugged. I probably got them right, I just didn't remember a thing about the test afterwards.
"Relax Tenten!" Sakura said, smiling. "That was the last class of the year! All we have is the dance, a couple free days, and then it's winter break!"
Tenten groaned. "Ughhhh. Back to my aunt's house I guess...."
We finally really reached our lunch table, where everyone else was already sitting. Neji turned to Tenten. "Well, Hinata, her sister, and I are staying in my uncle's second house in the mountains, since my aunt and uncle have been on business for the past month and won't be back for a while. If you want, you can come."
Hinata perked up. "Ooh, Tenten! Please do! It gets so boring there with only Neji and Hanabi..." Neji looked kind of offended at this statement.
Tenten smiled. "Sure! My aunt probably doesn't want me in the house anyway to be honest."
Ino looked up. "Can I come too? I don't think I could last in my house for the entire break."
Hinata nodded. "Sure. The house is pretty big, you can probably all fit it you guys want."
Within minutes, the entire group had contacted their parents (or guardians in some cases) and had all agreed to come.
"This is gonna be so fun!" Sakura grinned.
Eh. I just hope it's not a drag.
