Third POV
The Vargo family gathered around the small tombstone in their backyard. June sat on her knees before everyone, crying. No one stepped forward to comfort her, knowing she needed to grieve alone. Only a mother knew what it was like to have a miscarriage, to lose a child you never got to know and love and cherish. Hell, she still hadn't gotten over almost losing Alaric. If it wasn't for her biting him when they were having sex, he would have been gone.
When June thought they weren't looking, she went to the garden and just stared at the Jasmines, an empty look in her eye.
The guys had talked about what to do, but finally decided to just let her self-medicate. It was something they knew would pass, so they showered her with affection, letting her know she was loved, until she felt whole again. And she would. Eventually.
"We love you Jasmine," they all said in unison then released their white sky lanterns. The rest of the night was spent watching them disappear into the starry sky and enjoying being with family.
"Mom?" Autumn asked from her place beside her twin, Audrey, who was fast asleep in Kelen's lap.
June looked up at her daughter, smiling. "Yes sweetheart?"
Autumn looked a little nervous to ask what was on her mind, but Kelen gave her an encouraging smile that made her nerves settle.
"Can you tell us about how you meet daddies again?"
There was a moment of silence before rich laughter filled the calm, night air. June nodded her head, looking over at Alaric. He was rocking Leo, the newest addition to the family.
"Well," Alaric began, his vampire red eyes twinkling with mischief, "it all started when I broke into your mother's house---"
Before he could get any further though, Elias groaned loudly. "Do we have to? We've heard this story a million times," he complained.
"Yeah," Kai agree, always one to follow his older brother. "Can't you tells us about how you saved the world."
"No, no. We want to hear how they fell in loveeeee," Alexa drawled with a dreamy sigh. She gazed at her mother with those different colored eyes, one brown and one blue.
"Girls are gross," Ben said, his nose scrunched up in disgust. All the girls glared at him, to which he shrugged.
"And boys have frog cooties," Lana countered in her usual sassy tone.
June and her husbands laughed at the kid's antics. Their non-stop bickering could get a little out of hand at times, but they all still loved each other.
Cas whispered something to the triplets, Fin, Ryker, and Bowen. They giggled then whispered what their dad had said to the other boys. They all looked at each other then ran at the girls, touching their arm.
"YOU HAVE THE FROG COOTIES NOW," Ben scream then ran away, laughing. His brothers did the same while the girls screeched and ran after them, trying to give the cooties back.
June tried to hide her amusement by glaring at her trouble-making husband. "Look at what you started," she scolded lightly.
Casbian shrugged, then walked over to her, giving her a passionate kiss. "How else were we supposed to get some alone time with you?"
