Charlie and Alex sat cuddled on the bench for ages. They were so lost in the moment they didnt hear Taz approach.
You've got to come in. Mike and May-Li have called a meeting.
The three trouped inside and headed to the common room where the other DG kids were waiting.
Everyone was chatting excitedly, hoping that Mike and May-Li were going to announce that they would be able to go back to Ashdene Ridge soon.
However the grim expressions on Mike and May-Li's faces were enough to transform the atmosphere in the room from anticipation to dread.
I'm sorry but we have some bad news. We were expecting a call from the insurance company to say they have arranged to pay out the money to repair the flood damage. They did call but they are refusing to pay.
What?
Why?
No way!
That's not fair!
Quiet everyone! Interjected Mike. Let May-Li finish.
The insurance company are refusing to pay because a prelimary assessment has shown that the flood wasnt an accident. Someone deliberately unscrewed the main waterpipe in the bathroom.
Whoever it was knew what they were doing. added Mike. Someone had to have found the correct tools, turned off the water supply in the bathroom, unscrewed the pipe and then turned the water back on.
So what happens now? Asked Jody, voicing everyones first thought
Honestly, I don't know. Without the insurance money, we simply don't have the money for the repairs. It will be down to the council and Children's services to look into funding.
How long with that take? Questioned Tyler
We don't know. We could be talking months, maybe even a year, and that's assuming that the council can find enough funds.
What if they dont have enough funds? Added Alex
We don't know. We are just going to have to wait and see. For the time being all accommodation arrangements will continue.
After a lots of questions and very few answers, the meeting came to an end.The DG kids staying at Stoneybridge went to the dining room for dinner. Meanwhile Mike asked Tyler, Jody, Charlie and Alex to stay for a few more minutes.
Jody, I have spoken with the staff at Sunflower Lodge, the halfway house that these three are staying in. They have agreed that you can stay there too. They have managed to arrange for you and Charlie to share a room. Any problems at all and I want you to call me straight away, that goes for all of you. And Tyler, no more heroics, I don't want you putting yourself in danger, even if it's to help someone else. You call me or May-Li and we'll deal with it. Understood?
Yes Mike.
