"I'm sorry- I...I can't."Tears ran down her cheeks as she rushed to her apartment. Her heart ached deeply. The look on his face before she left- kind of haunted her.
Anna wiped her tears sloppily as she went to unlock her front door but realized it was already unlocked. She wondered if remembered to lock her front door before leaving and she couldn't recall. As Anna opened her apartment door her heart sank, and terror decorated her face.
"H...Hans?" Anna asked almost as whisper as she closed the door behind her.
"Where were you, Anna?" Hans said standing in the living room. His face was furious.
He knows.
Anna stood frozen against her closed front door. She inhaled to speak but she couldn't say anything.
"Where were you Anna?" He insisted, his voice growing louder.
"I...I was at a friend's family dinner." She stumbled, as the tears returned. Anna was practically shaking.
He shook his head seriously and looked away from her.
"Kristoff Bjorgman, am I correct?"
"How do you-"Am I correct?" Hans repeated. He was pissed.
"Yes..." Anna crossed her arms around her stomach. She felt as if she was going to throw up.
"You really went around with another man and you seriously thought I wouldn't find out?" he snapped while walking closer to her. "Word gets around to me fast Anna. I've been waiting here for an hour. And I've grown more upset with every passing minute."
So...he didn't see?
She pressed herself against the door. "N-no! It's not like that Hans, we're just friends!"
"Of course. 'Just friends'. Do you have any idea how much of a fool you made me look like?" He yelled, now right in front of her face.
"Hans... I-I'm sorry." Tears ran down Anna's face quickly. God how she wanted to just run. The man in front of her now was not the man she was engaged to.
"You should be. I have to go through the trouble of finding a replacement for Bjorgman. He was a quality worker too."
Anna felt as if her heart had been struck.
"No, Hans don't-please. I promise you, we're only friends."
Anna was flustered. Kristoff and her weren't just friends. Not anymore. But she couldn't let her fiancé just fire him because of her mistake.
Hans ignored her and tried to leave.
"Please Hans, please. I'll quit. I'll never ever talk to Kristoff again, I promise I won't. Just don't fire him."
He looked at her then for a while, then scoffed scoffed.
"Fine Anna. I'm not cruel."
Anna wiped her tears quickly and tried to slow her breathing. Hans kissed her wet cheek, and Anna winced.
"I'm sorry for catching you by surprise my love, I was just- upset. But you understand?" He lifted her chin to look at him.
Anna nodded.
"I hate that I won't see you at work anymore, but you'll have much more time to plan our wedding. And don't worry, I'll cover your rent."
"Thank you...Hans.." Anna tried to say despite her scattered breath. She moved away from the door so that Hans had room to leave.
"Goodnight my love." He said in an attempt to be endearing.
"Goodnight."
Another closed door planted right in front of her face._
Anna woke up a couple days later still with swollen eyes. There was a pit in her stomach. It almost felt as if Anna had some sick, awful nightmare, with a bizarre, yet amazing kiss. A kiss that Anna couldn't get off of her mind. Anna was so close to finally getting married, but frankly she was in love with someone else. The days dragged on for what seemed like a life time.
Anna struggled to ignore all of Kristoff's texts.
Kristoff: I'm so sorry about last night.
Kristoff: Please just talk to me Anna.
Kristoff: We don't have to be anything more than we were before, I just want you in my life.
Kristoff: I know I'm an idiot. But I couldn't hold it back any longer than I already had. Please understand Anna.
Kristoff: Don't do this. Please.
Kristoff: Why aren't you at work? Are you okay?
Kristoff: Please. I'm worried. All she could think about was Kristoff's face as she left him in the stairway. She wanted to apologize, tell him everything, and most of all kiss him. Again and again.
She knew she couldn't talk to Kristoff, but Anna needed to talk to someone. She needed a sister._
"I came as soon as I could." Elsa said as she walked into Anna's apartment building. Anna ran up to her and gave her a tight hug. Elsa noticed her swollen eyes. "Something happened didn't it?". Anna sighed and brushed her hair with her fingers.
She told her sister everything, from her friendship with Kristoff-to the kiss, and even how Hans had treated her the other night. Everything. Though some of it was shameful to admit, Anna trusted her sister.
"Anna.. The way Hans treated you isn't normal. I think there are clear power struggles in your relationship that he...may have a tendency to abuse?"
Anna slowly nodded, though it was not exactly something she wanted to hear, it was something needed to hear. It was a hard pill to swallow.
"What you decide to do is up to you. Just know, I followed my heart and it brought me back to you. Now its your turn to follow your heart and see where it takes you." Elsa comfortingly grabbed Anna's hand and gave it a tight squeeze.
"You're right. I guess I just... fixated over.. the idea of a married life. I thought I was so close and it would be a waste to throw it away. But, I know who my heart would lead me to if I followed it for a change,"
Anna inhaled quickly and suddenly stood up.
"I need to talk to Hans. This... is long over due."
Elsa nodded. "Go, I'll be here for you when you get back."
Anna gave her sister another warm hug and went to go get dressed.
This was going to be rough.
