Cadence
Elliot

_______________

CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX
_______________

Elliot stood leaning against his dark colored car, arms crossed. He was outside of Cadence's apartment building waiting for her. He had planned to escort her down to the car as a joke and out of the kindness of his heart, but she insisted he stay there and actually refused to buzz him in.

   I'll be down in 5.

Read the text he just received from her five minutes ago. Elliot checked his watch again.

   4:13PM.

The wedding started around 5:00PM and it was about a thirty minute drive, so-

   "Hey, Tigger."

Elliot's head popped up and he took her in. Cadence wore an all black, silky, flowy dress. Thin straps laid on her shoulders and the back opened up into a low "V" shape, exposing her full back. Her heels were simple and black, and she wore make-up, but very little. She blushed as Elliot checked her out, and noticed what a nice suit he was wearing. It was all black as well, even the dress shirt worn underneath. His hair was slightly gelled to stay ever so slightly slicked back on the one side to make him appear more professional. Cadence got a whiff of aftershave and men's cologne when she came closer.

Stepping out of the way, Elliot opened the passenger door for her and smiled still.

"You look absolutely exquisite." He said confidently.

Cadence smiled and hopped in, looking at him before he closed the door. "I could say the same."

Elliot winked at her and shut the door, running around to the other side to get in. Soon they were off, driving to their destination.

____________

"Hi, thanks for coming! The ceremony will begin shortly, just take a seat. Bride's side is on the left and vice versa for the groom." A lady said to Cadence and Elliot, handing them a card, similar to a wedding invitation. Cadence had her arm linked with Elliot's as they walked, continuing past the lady greeting people.

"Should we pretend to be from the groom's or the bride's family?" Elliot asked cheekily, yet serious. He looked at both sides and leaned closer to speak softer to Cadence, who listened intently. "The groom's side is looking a little sad."

"Elliot, stop that." Cadence giggled and swatted his arm, making him chuckle. "Just pick a side."

   "Come along then."

Finally seated on the sad groom's side, Cadence took in the surroundings. It was a cute little church, same old type. Several stained glass windows were placed around with a massive cross front and center of the room. Pews were full of people as flower pedals littered the aisle separating the two sides of rows. The wedding colors seemed to be a red-orange and a deep navy blue, even though they didn't seem to match.

Elliot looked around as well and slipped his arm around the back of the pew to rest it behind Cadence, his hand crazing her bare shoulder as he did so, making her shiver.

"My bad." He apologized in a whispered tone, pretending as if it didn't affect him as much as it did her. Cadence mentally scolded herself for allowing his touch, out of anyone else in the world, to affect her so much. He was her co-worker, a temporary nuisance. Nothing more.
