"How did your essay go? I'm sorry I was sick. I've had the stomach flu." Chris said on the phone a few days later.

"It went good actually. Nate helped a lot and I ended up finishing it by myself." I bit into my nutella covered toast.

"I told you he was a good guy." Chris did the I-told-you-so cliche'.

"Yeah, yeah. I'll see you later ok?" I hung up the phone and saw I had a message from Romeo. We hadn't stopped talking over the weekend. It was ridiculous. We talked from 9 in the morning until late at night. We talked about the books we were reading and TV shows we were obsessed with then later we had a deep and meaningful conversation about our love lives and as it turns out he had worse relationships than I did. He didn't delve into too much detail.

RomeoGuy65: Thank you for an exciting weekend. I'm really eager to meet you.
Briar_Rose36: I'm really eager to meet you too. I kind of wish we didn't have to wait.
RomeoGuy65: I know. It's so mysterious I don't want to ruin the fun. I'm sure we can be patient for the next 3 weeks.
Briar_Rose36: It'll go by so slow...
RomeoGuy65: It will but we can do it. It'll be worth it :)

I held back my butterflies. I was totally crushing on this guy. I wish I had even some clue as to who he was. There were too many students and I only knew a few. He said such sweet and romantic things. Especially when we talked about meeting. We fantasised about our dream dates and he'd said;

RomeoGuy65: My dream date could be anywhere doing anything as long as I'm with someone like you.

My heart leapt as soon as he'd said that but I tried not to sound too over-excited about it or too into him. I had made that mistake before with people who said what they knew I wanted to hear.
It was only my first year at university, almost over, and I'd had two boyfriends who lasted a month. One of them, Mitch, thought we were in an open relationship and the other, Jake, didn't want to go anywhere or do anything so I broke it off because that was just too boring.
I told myself I'd hold off on the dating which wasn't too difficult, I didn't have a lot of people asking.

I didn't have any classes on so I went down to meet Chris and Brea and catch up for lunch.
Brea was the only one sitting at the booth, she was busy drinking an iced tea.

"Hey girl!" She called out once she saw me.

"Hey," I sat down at the booth. "Chris said he was running late."

"As always." She mocked. "Oh my god I have some exciting news!"

I gasped and joked, "Are you pregnant?"

Brea rolled her purple eyeshadow covered eyes. "No..." She took a long sip of her drink and continued. "I'm meeting one of my dates on Saturday!"

"Wow really?" I thought of Romeo and how we'd said we didn't want to meet before the get together. A part of me wished I was meeting him on the weekend.

"Yep! We're meeting in the city. I'm going to catch a train there and he's going to drive me home. I'm so excited!" I don't think she took a breath the whole time she spoke.

"I'm happy for you, what's his name?"

"We didn't exchange names yet. But we couldn't wait to meet!" She explained, her eyes were sparkling.

"I totally think you're in love." I giggled. I spotted Chris rushing over to our booth just before the waitress came and took our order.

"Hi girls," He said, catching his breath. "I'll have a hamburger and a chocolate milkshake."

Our food arrived and Brea continued talking about this wonderful guy who made her feel like the luckiest girl in the world.
"Hey is that whats-his-name over there?" Brea pointed over to another table where she'd seen Nate take a seat at- with a pretty brunette.

For some reason my stomach felt it needed to do a somersault, but not a successful one.
"How unlucky for her..." I mumbled incoherently and put my half eaten meal in the middle of the table.

"It's about time he got himself a date, he's been single for god knows how long." Chris explained.

"A guy like that? Single? Pftt," Brea said. "He's waaayy too cute to be single."

"You didn't eat all your lunch." Chris observed, downing the rest of his milkshake. "What's up?"

Chris knew me better than anyone else, even better than Brea so he knew when something was wrong. The problem was I didn't even know what was wrong. Nate was allowed to date, he was single and ready to mingle. So why was I annoyed?

"I'm just not too hungry." I replied.

Chris believed me and started talking about how well their band was doing since Nate became a part of it.

My mind zoned out as my eyes glanced to the back of the room where Nate and the brunette leaned in for a passionate kiss.
