"Look at her, she's all over him." I grimaced watching the brunette, whose name I discovered was Kate, leap onto Nate's lap and stick her tongue down his throat. I couldn't tell if he was enjoying it or not- he probably was.
Brea and I were sitting at the dining table at James and Nate's house while the two lovebirds were outside enjoying the sunshine and making out. Brea was too busy messaging her date for that night to even care what was going on around her.
"Maybe he likes the clingyness?" Was all she said."It's still gross..." I mimicked throwing up.
James walked back into the kitchen after setting up the sound system in the loungeroom, he'd invited us over to a house party and we'd offered to help set up as we had nothing better to do- well Brea did, but she needed something to fill the time until she had to catch the train into the city.
"I better get going or I'm going to miss the train." Brea said. She was shaking with excitement. I looked at her up and down admiring her gorgeous outfit. I'd helped her get ready, curling her hair and giving her moral support so she didn't back out. She'd chosen to wear a black high waisted skirt and a red spaghetti strap top with black ballet flats. I'd lent her my black clutch.
She was beautiful."Be safe." I walked her to the door. "Call me if you need anything."
She nodded, she was too excited and nervous to speak. We hugged and said goodbye.
I was excited for my best friend but I didn't want her to get hurt so naturally I worried about her."James," I headed back into the kitchen. "Do you mind if I get ready in the bathroom?" I asked. He said he didn't mind and showed me where to go.
It wouldn't take me long to get ready, all I had to do was do my hair, change my outfit and touch up my make up.
I pulled out the black thigh high dress from my bag and matching heels. I hardly ever wore heels and I don't even know why I decided to wear them tonight.
I grabbed my curler and styled my hair and then fixed up my makeup- adding a touch of red lipstick I'd borrowed from Brea.
I packed my other clothes in my bag and left it in the bathroom. Walking out of the room I pulled my dress down a touch, worrying that it was riding up.Nate was chatting to Chris about something to do with the band when I walked in. I didn't see Kate anywhere. Chris turned towards me and gave me a reassuring nod.
"You look stunning sis! You scrub up alright." He laughed and gave me a pat on the back.
"Thanks." I grinned. He followed James back into the loungeroom, people were starting to arrive and they had to fix up the sound system again.
It was just me and Nate. I'd caught his glance before he shied away. Something was different about him he wasn't his usual cocky self.
He cleared his throat and softly smiled at me, "You look nice." He said."Thank you," I managed a smile. "Where's Kate?" I asked, sitting down at the breakfast bar and opening a bottle of water.
He shrugged, "She went home to get changed. She'll probably take 2 hours to do so."
"Most girls do." I laughed, taking a sip of my drink.
"You didn't." He said, he didn't have bother to smirk or wink, his usual traits. "You took not even half an hour and you were ready."
I stuttered, "Well...I guess I'm like a guy then." I chuckled once more but he still didn't have any other expression on his face but disappointment. I wondered why? He should have been happy. "Are you ok?" I asked softly.
He nodded, "I'm fine." He got up from his seat and walked to where I assumed was his bedroom.
"What's the matter with Nate?" I asked Chris when he entered the room. He took a beer out of the fridge and popped open the lid.
"No idea, James said he's been offish since he met Kate. He tried talking to him about it but he didn't want to apparantly." Chris gulped down some of his drink.
I frowned, "She seems like a bitch anyway."
"She's not exactly the nicest person in the world." Chris commented. "She got jealous too and went through his phone...ridiculous."
"They've only been dating a couple of days and already she's clingy and overprotective." I shook my head. "Why would she be jealous? You said he's been single for a while."
"She saw him with that app that Brea was on talking to someone and she told him to stop." Chris took another sip and a shoved a handful of salt and vinegar chips into his mouth.
"He's on that app?" I questioned. He didn't seem like the type of guy to go on that.
"Yeah James got him on it. A bit strange I think but whatever." He said. "Anyway, since Kate found that he promised her he wouldn't go on it and I think that's what's got him down. I think he met someone on there."
I gulped, Romeo had said that his brother set him up and he also hadn't talked to her in almost three days which was odd.
"You think? Then why date Kate?"
"I assume he has his reasons and it's clear he doesn't want to talk about it." Chris greeted a bunch of random strangers and his other band members as they entered the kitchen and put their alcohol where they could. "All I know is that he was over the moon anytime his phone went off. I honestly think he was falling for her, whoever she was." Chris started another conversation with Petey, the balding singer in their band.
I stared down into my water bottle. Nate couldn't be Romeo that just wouldn't work. They had to be two different guys. It had to be a coincidence.
It just had to.
