Beep beep

I sat on the comfortable green grass against a pine tree. It was quiet for lunchtime. I picked at my ham and cheese sandwich while reading a book for my poetry lecture- my attention changed completely when I heard my phone go off.
I reached into the pocket of my jacket and pulled it out.
I had 2 new messages on the app and one message from Chris saying he was sick and couldn't help me with my essay writing this afternoon.

Damn, I suck at essays. Oh well.

I checked my app messages and I was surprised to hear back from Romeo.

RomeoGuy65: Sorry for the late reply.

RomeoGuy65: You must be a good friend to do that. My brother set me up with this. Don't worry I'm not a creepy guy, I know that's something a creepy guy would say but trust me.
So what kind of things do you like to write? I like writing but I'm not very good. :P

Briar_Rose36: I've been on blind dates before but it's odd to think of talking to the person before you meet them and not knowing their name or anything. Haha well I think I trust you- I have no reason not to.
I like to write poetry, it's fun. Oh I'm sure you're not that bad, I'd like to read some?

I sent my reply and as I did a shadow cast over me. I looked up to find Nate staring down with a half-smile on his face. His hair brushed back against his face messily.

Damn him and his rugged looks.

"Hey blondie," He said. " Chris sent me over. He said you needed help this afternoon with an essay." Without waiting for an answer he simply sat down on the ground beside me.

"I don't need help, I'm fine." I shrugged and put my book back in my bag.

"You really are very hostile towards me aren't you." He chuckled, pulling out a chunk of grass from the ground.

"I'm not hostile." I tried to come up with something to back me up but once again my brain was baby food.

"Come on, just let me help you out today and then I'll leave you alone, alright?"

"I suppose if Chris sent you..." I sighed.

"Great, I happen to be quite good at essay writing."

I scoffed, "No one is good at essay writing."

"Well I am." He said self-assuringly. "What's the essay about?"

"Oh just analyzing a poem of your own choosing and the main theme behind it or something. I always come up with an idea but I can never get it on paper."

"So you're studying poetry?" He smiled. I felt him nudge a little closer towards me. I could smell the scent of cologne on him. "I do enjoy poetry."

"It's fun when you don't have to spend hours upon hours underlining every second word." A smile crossed my face when he laughed at my comment.

"That's true," He replied. "Did you want to meet in the library at say 5?" He glanced at his watch, checking the time.

I paused. Did I really want to be tutored by him? I wasn't afraid of being alone and studying with a guy, I had relationships before- obviously not good ones if they didn't last very long but still I wasn't uncomfortable being around the male species. I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to concentrate or even understand anything.
If my brain wouldn't work the way I wanted it to from a simple conversation how the hell was I going to last an hour or so with him?
No. I would focus. I had to focus.

"Sure. Sounds like a plan."

"Cool. I best be off then, I'll see you later blondie!" He winked and clicked his fingers as he left.

Once I was sure he couldn't see me, I slapped myself in the forehead and tried knocking some sense into myself.

"What am I doing?" I said to myself and wrapped the rest of my sandwich off, ready to go back to my last lecture of the day.
