Nate jerked away suddenly, pulling his hand away from mine as he did so.
"I'm sorry." He said, catching his breath.

"What are you sorry for?"

"I shouldn't have done that." He shook his head and got up from the bed.

"Nate..." I began, reaching out to touch his hand but he yanked his arm away.

"I've gotta go." He said and quickly left my room. I stood with my arms crossed over my chest. I had no idea what was going through his head.
He came over to see me.
He saw me and he kissed me.
We kissed. We kissed.

I sighed and ran out after him. I zipped up my jacket when I ran outside into the cold night air, I didn't waste time putting shoes on.
I caught him walking swiftly off and I managed to catch him before he got back in his car.

"Nate!" I yelled out.

He turned around, keys in his hand, and faced me.

"You can't just barge into my room, kiss me like that and then leave like it was the worst thing in the world." I raised my voice at him as I spoke.

"Technically I didn't barge in. You let me in." He smirked, a little, but it was still a smirk.

"You know what I mean." I uttered.

"Look I have to go." His expression changed and he proceeded to unlock his car.

"Why did you even bother coming by? It was surely a waste of your time."

"It wasn't a waste of time." He slammed his door shut. "I wanted to see you, Mia. I had to see you." He was walking closer to me. "I needed to make sure I wasn't dreaming. That this was real. When I found out who you were I was completely over the moon- to find out the girl I was attracted to was also the girl I was crushing on. I didn't believe it, I thought you were tricking me. I wanted to tell you how happy it made me talking to you, how it felt right but when I saw you I was speechless, I wanted to kiss you and never stop."
He reached over and placed his hand against my cheek.

"Then why did you leave?" I whispered, lowering my eyes and facing the ground.

His hand fell away and returned to his side. "It's complicated." Nate turned his back to me and walked back to the car silently.

I didn't bother following or calling out after him. I watched him drive away instead.
My eyes filled up with tears, stinging them. They started to fall down my cheeks, I brushed them away with the sleeve of my jumper.

Why wouldn't he give me an explanation? What was he hiding?

                                                                                               ***
"Are you alright sis? You seem down today." Chris asked as we walked through the shopping centre eating our frozen yoghurt.

"I'm fine." I lied and faked a laugh.

Chris glared at me, "I know when you're lying Mia."

"I'm not lying. Trust me, everything is ok." We sat ourselves down on a bench, observing all the angry customers rushing around busily, some barging into each other without even an apology being said.
My eyes darted over to a couple walking out of a fancy clothes shop.

It was Nate and Kate.

Ugh, their names rhymed.

Kate was grasping a number of bags from other stores as well as one from where they just came out of. Nate put his wallet in his back pocket and wrapped his arm around her and they walked on.
Kate was giggling and enjoying every second of being spoilt.
I could feel the tears come again. But I was not going to cry in front of my brother- no way. He didn't need my problems.
The worst thing about seeing the two of them out and about wasn't just that he'd kissed me last night but that he hadn't spoken to me at all today and now he was smiling with Kate.

"How's Brea?" Chris asked. Taking my mind off of Nate.

"She's good. It turns out the guy had a girlfriend and was looking for some fun. He never intended to meet her." I was angered when she explained it all to me, guys could be total wankers. "She deleted the app and now she's sworn off guys she said."

"Would you mind if I went over and talked to her? Maybe get her back on track so she doesn't totally give up on the male species?" He laughed.

"Go for it. It might be better for her to hear from a guy."

"Usually hearing another point of view helps." He scooped up the last of his yoghurt before throwing it in the bin beside him. "I've gotta go speak to a club manager about our upcoming gig, Nate said he wasn't able to, strange but oh well, I'll talk to you later." He hugged me, ruffled my hair and left.
I couldn't finish the rest of my yoghurt so I threw it out. I could still see Nate, ordering some food for Kate and himself.
A lightbulb appeared above my head.

I need to talk to his brother. If anybody would know what's going on in his head it had to be him.
