Gotham City

Janelle's POV

I sit with Khalil as we hear my mother speak, I open up our mind link and he nods towards me, which is now a habit.

Me:She's still using.

Khalil:I know, I sense it.

Me:Do you think they know?

Khalil:Probably not. She looks better, they probably think she's off.

Me:Or just keeping up.

I close the link and listen to what she says.

Mom:I am pleased to report that every meta-human in Freeland has been stabilized. And though I was able to fix their bodies, their lives will remain shattered. They're outsiders, in need of reassimilation into society, and education, a place to live.

Judge:Nadgar:I have your recommendations here for a boarding school keyed to the needs of Freeland's meta-humans. This congressional commission hereby ratifies your plan.

Mom:Thank you.

She gets up and sits on the other side.

Judge Nadgar:The commission calls Black Lightning.

I see dad, Anissa and Jennifer on the stand, dad in the middle. I open the mind link again.

Me:Do you feel a strong meta presence here? Like the one in Markovia?

Khalil:Yeah, I thought I was just missing something.

Me:They said he blew up in the pit.

Khalil: They never pulled a body out. Maybe he's like Lala.

Me:God I hope not.

Khalil:Me too.

Dad:So what happened in Freeland was not random. It was the latest in a long, reprehensible history of experimenting on black people. From trail and error surgeries on women in bondage, to giving men syphilis at Tuskegee, and now to decades of illegal human experimentation to create meta humans.

He pulls out a brief case and sighs.

Dad:All the evidence is in this brief case.

Judge Nadgar:The chair recognizes Judge Isabella.

Judge Isabella:Black Lightning, where did you get that brief case?

Dad:From the ASA. Now what you're looking at is the master control for the ASA's operation on meta humans.

Judge Nadgar:The chair recognizes Judge Von Eeden.

Judge Von Eeden:Black Lightning, o assume the information in there is encrypted, is it not?
