Nothing changes until people decide to do the things they must, in order to bring about peace ~ Shannon L. Alder
Chapter 17: Closure

Jai'yanna's POV:
After Mr. Pak informed me that there was no way I could go to sleep last night, I returned to Christian's house after the meeting. I felt that home was no longer safe, and to make matters worse, I have been experiencing frequent morning vomiting since last week.
It was 5:03am.
"Babe, please lie down." Christian groaned. He doesn't comprehend how I'm not exhausted. "I know you're going to try to bail on me."
"I'm not sure, but I was wondering if you could ride with me today. Just to be safe, you know?" I bit my nails nervously.
"Hey!" He sat up with a frown, seeing the straight look on my face as a tear rolled down my cheek. "What's wrong?" He grabbed my wrist and pulled me into his embrace. "Talk to me, Mama."
I don't want to die, but why do I feel like it's too late? I looked over my shoulder, shielding myself from his pity. It hurt me to even think like this at a time like this.
Christian held me close, whispering, "I'll never abandon you. Not even death can separate us. So, don't worry about things you can't control. Just know that I'll always be here for you."
For some strange reason, his arms felt like the safest place in the world, despite the betrayal surrounding him. Christian doesn't seem as bad as I do compared to the hardships I face with my family. At least he wouldn't betray the people he shares blood with, unlike my family, who are willing to trade me for less. Hell, Kane is my uncle, and he definitely wants me dead.
"Can I tell you something? You mustn't tell anyone." I whispered.
"Of course. But don't tell me you're pregnant or married. I might shoot Glenn just because he's the only guy around." Christian joked.
I smirked. "Kane is my father's brother."
Christian's face went from smiling to upset. "What are you talking about?"
"Kane believes this empire belongs to him, and in hindsight, it does. However, things didn't unfold as planned, and my father ascended to the throne." I sighed.
Christian took my hand. "So, they've all been deceiving you as well?"
"No, they're attempting to conceal a truth that could jeopardize our future for years. What better way to announce his takeover than during my coronation?" I fell back into bed, staring at the ceiling. "It's brilliant."
"You can't think like that. I'm the only one who knows the truth, right?" he asked.
"Yes," I nodded.
"We'll keep this between us. In the meantime, we have a plan to execute. First, I'll give you some medicine so you can at least sleep for a couple of hours. Glenn and I will recruit more men to work on the hotel for you, and we'll proceed from there." Christian's soothing hand caressed my face. "Just relax."
His hand traced my skin. I shivered and pushed his hand away. "I can't focus on that right now." I attempted to get up, but Christian grabbed my hand.
