Jai'yanna's Pov:

My mind is overwhelmed with an array of emotions, leaving me speechless. I've been sitting at Sahara's bedside at the hospital, tapping on the window in the pouring rain. Despite the relentless downpour, it feels as though time is slipping away.

The table has placed a bounty on Kane's head, which will take effect in 72 hours, or three days. I have three days to eliminate him before anyone else can do so. It's my right, first and foremost.

I observed Sahara's heart rate through a machine. Sahara is currently in a coma, but Kane kept his word.

We had to re-arm our men, relocate our families, and establish security around the hospital. It's been incredibly quiet since I returned to the land. However, people know what I'm up to.

"How are you doing?" Saharas nurse asked me. Her face was innocent, and despite my urge to curse her, I couldn't bring myself to do so. I wasn't there for her; I was there for Sahara.

"Same as before." I stood up from the chair for the first time since arriving here. "I'm going to step out for some fresh air. Please ensure that a round-the-clock nurse is on duty and that the protective is stationed at the door. I'm a friend of Doctor Carver."

Carver, a longtime family friend and our family's exclusive doctor, as per the perks of being us, was in the room. I made my way out into the hall and bumped into Glenn. "Hey Jai, where are you headed?"

I pointed outside, noticing that he had brought Christian with him. "Can we talk?" Christian tugged at my arm, but he was about to flash my gun in front of these elderly people.

I grabbed my coat and snatched it back. "I've been in here all morning. Can we go outside?"

"Yeah," he nodded his head. He walked right behind me as we exited the building.

"What's happening?" Christian asked, concerned.

"Arias completely vanished, Sahara is in the ICU, and you're on edge. You're my girl, you don't think I know when something's wrong with you?"

I pulled out my wood from behind my ear and started smoking it. I've been up all night, and a tear ran down my face. I kept scrolling through my phone, looking at pictures of Sahara. "Why did it have to be you?" I mumbled low.

Rome took some of Mr. Paks' men and they're crawling through the streets, looking for Kane or the Olavich family's men. No one is to be trusted. My grandmother was sent away to stash house in Palmdale with the kids.

I need them far out of range, but close enough that I can still reach them. Christopher called to check on me. He would have been here, but he's on a flight back from the Caicos. He had to run a quick errand.

Every time I think about Sahara, a different scenario plays out in my mind, showing me how I could have saved her and, in some instances, how it should have been me.
