Ashton despised his last lesson of the day, History. Why was it important for him to learn about a bunch of ignorant white men who tried to take over every country? He didn't see the point and neither did Finn. Finn was slumped over the desk, trying to desperately think of an excuse to get her out of the hell hole that they called 'class', looking around she saw nobody who was in any of her other classes, for some reason Finn had been put into the advanced class this year, she decided to dismiss herself.
"Sir?" A thin grey haired man turned around and smiled warmly at Finn, obviously not annoyed at her interruption. He nodded, encouraging her to proceed.
"I completely forgot, my English class has a meeting in like 5 minutes for the field trip we're going on."
"We do?" Finn shot her head around at the person who spoke, Ashton. Shit, she'd forgotten he was in her class.
"Um, yeah, I forgot to tell you." She lied. "So can we be excused?" The teacher nodded his head again, allowing them to leave within 20 minutes of the class starting. Ashton picked up his backpack and swung it over his shoulder, following Finn out of the class.
"You're so stupid." Finn rolled her eyes and stormed off down the corridor. Ashton had a look of confusion on his face and took a few strides to reach Finn who had almost been running, long legs came in handy.
"Wait, what did I do again? Mind informing me?" Ashton laughed.
"We don't have to be in English you dumbass." Finn let out a frustrated sigh and opened the double doors at the front of school. Ashton followed her, still confused.
"Oh right, so you just wanted to get out of there?" Finn nodded, really wishing he would leave her alone.
"Although I didn't plan on having a puppy following me around, why are you still here?"
"I'm leaving, you know there is only one way to get out of school, Finn. Don't worry about me being your stalker." He chuckled and threw up a wave, exiting the large iron gates that ironically resembled prison gates. Again, Finn didn't think this one out, now she looked like she was following him home. Well, she practically was considering they lived opposite each other.
Finn kept her distance but Ashton was a slow walker, meaning that on more than one occassion she had to slow right down to avoid walking next to him.
"You know, it's weird how we've never really spoken before." Ashton piped up, still walking at the pace of a tortoise.
"Yeah? Why's that then?"
"We literally live opposite each other, don't you think that's weird?" Ashton fell in next to Finn without her realising.
In all honesty, Ashton wasn't sure why he was talking to Finn, let alone walking beside her when he didn't have to. He felt somewhat drawn to her, he had heard the things she'd said about him and his friends and how she acted towards them, but he thought that it could all be a facade. Her anger was perhaps a mask. But he still wasn't sure if he wanted to find out, but for some reason, he couldn't stop talking to her.
"I've never really thought about it, I don't usually associate with losers like you and those morons you call friends." Ashton laughed, not feeling offended whatsoever.
"At least I have friends." Finn looked up at Ashton, who was towering over her, she hadn't actually realised how tall her was.
"I have friends." She defended, trying to sound confident but Ashton knew that was an insecure topic.
"You don't fit in."
"Thanks for the newsflash, Ashton." She scoffed.
"I mean, you are nothing like them." He chuckled, that stupid chuckle, Finn thought. God it was annoying.
"They're so preppy, and you're so... not." Ashton looked over her, taking in her sense of style for the second time today. He couldn't quite comprehend how she ended up with them as 'friends'. He understood Keiko, they were similar to each other, and she was the only who could make Finn laugh, it seemed.
Finn rolled her eyes for what seemed like the 100th time that day and pushed open a gate, it only just hit Ashton that they'd reached her house, she closed the gate and angrily, like she did everything else, stormed off into her house.
"Nice talking to you, Finn. We should do it again some time." He called as she opened the door, only earning him a middle finger and a slammed door.
Ashton crossed the road to his house and fished his keys out of his rucksack when he felt his phone vibrating in the pocket of his skin tight jeans. He answered, still standing outside his house and trying to unlock the door.
"What's up?"
"Where are you?" Michael asked angrily. Ashton raised an eyebrow even though nobody would see, finally unlocking the door he let himself inside and threw his bag down by the stairs.
"Just got home, why?"
"Dude, we have practice today." Ashton moved the phone down to look at the date.
"Ah shit, I'll be right over, man."
"We waited outside school but you never came out, did you leave early or something?" The usual twenty minute walk had taken a lot longer than expected, the school day was already over.
"Yeah our history class got let out early." He heard Michael snort and repeated what he'd said to the other boys. Ashton wondered if they knew he was lying, he didn't exactly know how they'd react to finding out that he was speaking to Finn without having an argument. It was clear Michael disliked her, it may have not gone down too well.
"I can''t believe you forgot." Ashton rolled his eyes and picked up his backpack again and it was like he was being put into rewind motion, his actions exactly the same but backwards to what he'd just done.
"I'm leaving mine now, okay?" Michael hung up without a response and Ashton picked up his bike from outside his house and started riding off to Michael's, probably to be ambushed by questions, about Finn no less.
