Sophie and Keefe. I always knew this was how the love triangle would end.
I will admit, Sophie and Fitz together were very cute. But he needs to work on issues of his that are keeping him from having a successful, or healthy relationship. He needs to stop blaming others for his mistakes, and stop caring about his reputation too much, get rid of his anger issues, and stop being so jealous. Those things stood in the way of what Sophie and Fitz both wanted. Maybe they could have worked if he was older, but they didn't get the timing right. And she's clearly more suited to be with Keefe.
And, there was the whole Dex thing. They're practically cousins. Gross. I can't believe what happened with them. Sophie told me about it some months ago, and I could hardly comprehend what I heard. I'm just glad it ended and they're still very good friends.
Now, Keefe. I'll admit, when he entered Sophie's life, I had a lot of reservations. I had never met the boy but I had heard a lot about him. Not just the Great Gulon Incident, but many other events as well.
Of course, can you really blame him? With everything that goes on in his house, and after his mom disappeared, comedy is his only escape. It's the only way for him to cope. I just wish I could pull him into a tight hug and let him get everything he needs out of his system. He deserves so much more than he got.
He has been waiting patiently for Sophie to come around for so many years. I remember once years ago, they were talking about something serious on the couch. And the way they looked at each other, Keefe specifically, I could see it coming from a mile away. Although, it was Grady's specialty to interrupt them at the most inconvenient time possible. Some would think it was because he was waiting outside the door, eavesdropping on their conversations. He didn't. At least, he hasn't told me he did that, and I haven't seen him do that. Hopefully he wouldn't do that.
When Sophie started to realize her feelings for him, and was losing feelings for Fitz, their relationship dynamic changed so much. They started spending more time together, joking around more. And they were both happier.
One of the best things about Sophie realizing her feelings for Keefe was how their relationship was different from her relationship with Fitz. She was so much more relaxed with Keefe. When she was around Fitz, all she could do was blush and look at the ground and never get her words out right. I think one of the reasons their relationship didn't work out was because they weren't friends first. Sophie liked him from the moment she looked at him, and because of that they could barely hold a conversation without her mind going other places.
When she's with Keefe, I can see how he affects her. She's always so happy and relaxed. She was like that before she started liking him, and after. The fact that she had new feelings of attraction towards him didn't change much in her behavior around him. Except for more blushing. Once he took notice of her feelings, he teased. A lot. It was the easy kind of teasing, like the kind he did before. "What, you falling in love with me, Foster?"
He started smiling. Smirking was still Keefe Sencen patented, but a new, big, smile was on his face a lot more often than before. Sophie made that happen.
And the other day, Sophie was questioning whether she was in love with Keefe or not. It puts a smile on her face that she doesn't know how romantic love is supposed to feel. She's still so young. Obviously she's mature and wise beyond her age, but still. So oblivious. It's cute.
She's been in love with Keefe for so long, she just hasn't realized it. And what makes the whole situation worse is that Keefe knew as well. Keefe was in love with her, and she loved him back, but she didn't know it. I can't even imagine how much that would hurt. And seeing her get hurt by Fitz because she couldn't move past him. Keefe has proven himself worthy of Sophie, because of how long he's waited, and how much he's hurt, all for her. Well, since elves are immortal, it's not that long in retrospect. But I'm sure it felt that long.
They've been upstairs for a while. I should go check if Keefe is going to stay for dinner.
I headed upstairs and heard nothing coming from Sophie's room. When I knocked on the door, I didn't hear anything else.
I slowly opened the door and saw one of the cutest things I've ever seen. Sophie and Keefe were laying on the bed, napping. Sophie was on her back holding Keefe to her and he was on his side, snuggling his face into her neck and his arms around her waist.
I didn't have the heart to wake them up. I could only imagine how embarrassing that would be for them, too.
I closed the door and headed downstairs.
I'm so happy that they're finally together. And I can't wait to see them together forever.
