Sophie had finished her homework long before Keefe showed up. That meant that she had plenty of time to obsess over what she would wear and how she would do her hair and all that crap.
Vertina was, surprisingly, a big help. She guided Sophie into all the realms of femininity. She knew Keefe said it would be pretty casual, no need to get all fussed up. For this, Sophie was eternally grateful.
She decided on light makeup and her hair in a classic ponytail, so it was up and out of the way. She ended up with a slightly fancier tunic then she would wear on a daily basis and leggings. Needless to say these simple choices took about 90 minutes to make.
Sophie came downstairs to see Keefe casually chatting with Edaline over a plate of ripplefluffs. She also noticed a picnic basket on the table.
"Uh, hello." she said, hoping to draw Keefe's attention away from her mom.
Keefe turned to look at her, and was at a loss of words for a couple seconds. He then visually shook his thoughts out of his head, and said, "Hi."
"What's the picnic basket for?"
"Oh, it's for us."
"You're not gonna give me more details?" she asked, almost dying of curiosity.
"Nope! That would ruin the surprise!"
"Well, I'm antsy so let's get going!" she told him, and came over to take his hand and drag him to the door.
"Sophie . . ." Sophie heard the voice from the side of the room, and she had no doubt that what she was trying to avoid was right there.
She turned around to see Grady standing with his arms crossed. He was covered in the classic green feathers, and she figured he was feeding Verdi.
"Where are you going with that boy?" he asked with a dangerously quiet tone.
Unfortunately, Sophie didn't have an answer for him, but Keefe came to her rescue. "We're going to Moonglade to have a picnic and stargaze."
Sophie immediately became more excited for their date and turned to Keefe, eagerly grabbing his arm and saying, "Really? That's so much fun I'm so excited now!"
"Oh so you weren't excited before? Am I not good enough for you, Foster?" he asked with a smirk shaping his words. He clutched his chest dramatically. "You wound me."
Sophie had to stifle a giggle when she saw that her father was not amused.
Grady turned to Keefe and said, "You will have her back by 11:00 or I will personally feed you to Verdi. Do I make myself clear, Mr. Sencen?"
Sophie could see Keefe's Adam's Apple bob up and down before he said, "Very."
Grady looked pleased with himself before he turned to Edaline and she smacked him on the back of the head.
"Ok, well, bye, I guess." Sophie said, still slightly disoriented by what Grady said. She led Keefe out the door.
"Have fun!" Edaline yelled after them. And right before she shut the door, she heard Grady yell, "But not too much fun!"
Once the front door was closed Keefe leaned back against it and took a deep breath while raking his hand through his hair. "God, your father gives me a heart attack every time I see him."
Sophie laughed and said, "Don't worry, if he tries to kill you I'll protect you."
"Good, good." Keefe said, relieved.
"So, can we go now?" Sophie asked excitedly.
He smirked at her as he pulled out his leapmaster and yelled, "Moonglade!"
