The gang was all hanging out at Havenfield after school. Sophie, Keefe, Biana, Dex, Tam, Marella, Linh, Maruca, and Wylie came. They claimed it was to do homework, but in reality all they did was sit in a circle and joke around. It was a nice change of pace. There had been so much tension with the whole Fitz situation, and since he wasn't here it was much easier to relax.
Sophie realized that it had been a while since she actually caught up with any of them. "So what's been going on this past week?" There were mutterings of "not much" and "nothing", but Sophie noticed that Biana gave Dex a not-too-subtle glance.
Biana spoke up. "Well, there is something. . . me and Dex are dating now."
The entire group erupted with noise as Biana delivered the news.
Once the initial shock wore off, everyone had questions. The most common was, "When did this start?"
Dex answered. "Well, a couple weeks ago, Biana came to the shop and asked me out. And it went really well."
"That's it?" Linh asked.
"Yep. All other information is only given to level 7 security clearance."
Everyone glanced questioningly at each other, while Biana and Dex shared an inside joke.
"So no other secret relationships?" Keefe laughed.
"Me and Wylie are together." Linh said.
"And me and Marella." Came from Tam.
"And I'm dating this girl. You guys don't know her, though." Maruca announced.
Even though everyone was thoroughly surprised at the pronouncements, they decided to let it go unquestioned.
"Well, I guess that's that." Everyone laughed and went back to not doing their homework.
A couple minutes later Linh spoke up. "It is kind of weird, though. We used to be so young, saving the world, and now the world is saved and we're old. We're in relationships and have our own lives, and this year we'll be out of school. It's all so crazy."
"I mean, I don't think we're old. A young old, maybe." Keefe said.
Sophie thought of the years before. All the chaos and misery, and it was all over. Before they were even 20. It was smooth sailing, for the rest of their lives. Hopefully.
"The rest of our lives are ahead of us. Literal infinity. That's still crazy to me, I mean, how are we going to not be bored of our lives?" Sophie asked.
"I don't know, everyone finds something to do." Marella said.
After some minutes of contemplating the future, Biana yelled, "I'm borrrrred."
"Why don't we have a braid train?" Sophie suggested.
Dex asked, "What's that?"
"It's when a bunch of people line up and you braid the hair of the person in front of them, while the person behind them braids yours, and so on. It's really fun." she paused. "And time efficient."
They all agreed and lined up together. Sophie positioned herself so she would get to braid Keefes hair. "Don't you dare mess up my hair, Foster. The only reason I'm letting you do this is because I trust you implicitly."
"Oh thank you, dear gracious one," Sophie joked.
Keefe rolled his eyes and swatted her arm.
"Ooooh, lovers quarrel!" Marella teased.
And thus, the braiding began. One after another, some proficient, some lacking the knowledge.
When they finally finished, it was fun to see the results of people who didn't know how to braid. Maruca's hair was a mess, Sophie's looked like a raccoon had just clawed it all up, and Tam looked like he had a mohawk.
Sophie had given Keefe two french braids, and he was very into it.
"Dammmmmmmmn, Foster, you did good." and a couple mutterings of, "Very nice, very nice." He kept walking around to their friends and going, "Look, look, see?" Where they jokingly nodded along to his antics.
Overall, a pretty fun day.
