Mrs.Pratt's POV
I got up to check on the children and they were still sleeping so my husband and I discussed what we should do, we decided to ask for Sarah's permission to care for the kids until she got herself together. My husband wanted the kids to have a warm breakfast when they woke up so he went to cook.
Lauren's POV
Today's the first day in a long time that I've been able to wake up without having to dodge anything and to be honest, it feels nice. I look over to the bed next to me and see that Keith is still sleeping so I quietly get up and walk to the kitchen where I'm met by Mr. Pratt cooking breakfast. "Morning young lady did you sleep well," he asked while flipping pancakes. I was a little caught off guard our mother never asked how I slept let alone cooked breakfast. " it was great" I said with a bright smile.
Keith's POV
A bacon aroma filled the air making me jump out of bed and rush for the kitchen, as I turned the corner I bumped into Mrs. Pratt. "I'm sorry it won't happen again" I cried, Mrs. Pratt, assured me that it was okay and showed me to a room that had video games that her son left behind. After playing for a while I joined everyone else in the kitchen. I wish our mom would be more understanding and had breakfast with us every now and then.
Mr. Pratt's POV
The kids are enjoying themselves they are really good kids Lauren loves to help out and Keith has a colorful imagination for an 8-year-old. We spoke to Sarah a while ago and she agreed to let us keep them until after dinner. I think it's nice having kids around we've been lonely since our son went off to college and now my wife has a young lady to talk about makeup with.
Lauren's POV
Things are going so smoothly we've been almost all day and nobody has raised their voice once. It's kinda weird because Mrs. Pratt reminds me of how my mom used to be before she became an abusive alcoholic and Keith is hitting it off well with Mr. Pratt hasn't bonded with a male like this in a while due to abuse from mom's last boyfriend.
Keith's POV
I never knew it was so easy to have a good bond with someone I knew for only a couple of hours. Mr. Pratt and I have played almost every video game, he showed me some Nintendo games and I showed him how to play a little of Fortnite even though he says he doesn't understand why kids just want to shoot each other. Man is this what having a dad is like?
Lauren and Mrs. Pratt are watching makeup videos while Mr. Pratt is teaching Keith how to play checkers. After they finish their activities they sit at the table with a family movie playing from the living room, all is going well until they hear a knock at the door.
Lauren's POV
We were watching a movie when midway we heard a knock at the door, I know that knock from anywhere it's our mom. Mr. Pratt goes to open the door and little to my surprise she was sober and looked a little happy. Mrs. Pratt asked if she wanted to join us and she accepted.
Keith's POV
It's a miracle mom agreed to sit down to eat, she hasn't done that since I was 6 years old. I can tell that she was happy because she was humming her favorite tune.
Dinner was finished so Sarah and the kids headed downstairs before they left out the door Mrs. Pratt told Lauren not to forget what she told her which was "You can't control the cards you're dealt but you can control how you play". Lauren smiled at her and nodded
