Chapter 5: The Reign of Light and the New Ice Age

Parklands, farmlands, tropical forests and marsh. They would all fall prey to the strong blast of hurricane winds and rapid and powerful climatic changes that would slam them relentlessly. Threadbare and thin, the topsoil ran into the streams, while the sun remained at its watch and continued to gleam, though its powerful rays would hit the earth at a sharper angle. Every day and throughout what used to be night, Forani had no one to turn to. There was no one to call to extricate the earth from his 'plan of a lifetime.' All of his dreams of harnessing the power of the earth's magnetic fields to control a gravitational pull into a more favourable solar orbit had not predicted that the orbit of his two thermonuclear warheads would decay faster when exposed to the more powerful magnets that he had placed around the warheads so that he could increase the yield on the blasts.

Forani's fifteen minutes of fame had passed. It was the dawning of a new age: the Reign of Light Age combined with an Ice Age. But this Ice Age was different from the previous dozens in earth's long history─instead of resulting from the natural push and pull between celestial bodies, this time it resulted from man's interference in a four and a half billion-year-old relationship between the sun and earth. Consequently, this new Reign of Light/Ice Age would be characterized by the earth's attempt at healing and rebalancing itself while in an altered orbit around the sun. Radiation levels spiked due to the loss of much ozone and the earth's altered magnetic poles. The demise of earthly living things was inevitable.
