Chemistry. Probably the most interesting class of the day, if we got to blow stuff up.
We weren't blowing stuff up today.
Doug and I had always been lab partners, but because Evie was here now, we were now a group of three. Doug sat between Evie and I, and all that girl could do was gawk at Chad. What she saw in him, I have no idea. So, while she did that, I was sketching in my notes.
"Any chance he's in line for a throne?" Evie asked us, causing Doug to be lost in her eyes. "Anywhere in line?" I scoffed at her comment, while Doug translated my scoff to her.
"Chad. Prince Charming Jr. Cinderella's son."
Evie suddenly looked at Doug, quite surprised at her luck in finding Chad. Doug seemed to get lost in love again, but continued as she looked back at the idiot prince. "Chad inherited the charm, but not a lot of there, there, know what I mean?"
I scoffed again, but looked up this time, and nudged Doug. "I'm not sure there's anything there," I whispered to him. He gave me a small mischievous smile, but turned his attention back towards Evie.
"Looks like there, there to me," she sighed as her chin rested on her knuckles. Doug breathed out, letting his lips flop. His eyes almost rolled back into his skull.
"Evie!" Mr. Deley burst, yanking the girl out of her dream like state. Doug and I got silent, and looked at the annoyed teacher too. "Perhaps this is just review for you," he continued. "So tell me, what is the average atomic weight of silver?"
Her mouth fell open a little, trying to find an answer. "Atomic weight?"
Oh no.
She laughed. "Uh, well, not very much. I mean, it's an atom, right?" Chad laughed with her.
Not good. Very not good.
Mr. Deley almost looked like he wanted to roll his eyes, but he gestured for Evie to come to the front, and solve the problem on the board. She looked at us, low-key worried, but walked up there.
"Let's see," Evie said sweetly to the teacher. She took the chalk from his hand, and proceeded to look towards the ground. "How do I find the average atomic weight of silver?"
She looked down again. What was she doing? I leaned a little over Doug so that I could see around Chad. Doug leaned back and out of my way, quite confused, and I saw that Evie was holding something towards her. What was that? It looked almost like a small sort of mirror.
She continued. "That would be 106.905 times 0.5200, plus 108.905...." Doug looked as though he was trying to keep up with the calculations, and Mr. Deley looked like he was regretting his choice of which student to pick on. Chad seemed to figure out that this would be a good time to get correct answers. "...times 0.4800, which, Mr. Deley, would give us," Evie smiled at him.
That was it. The mirror's image had changed. It was a magic mirror that was giving her the answers. I leaned back again, letting Doug sit back up and contemplate what the heck was happening. A magic mirror would make some sense. She is the Evil Queen's daughter after all. But man, was that mirror cool!
Evie finished writing the problem on the board by looking at her mirror one last time. "107.9 'amu'."
"'Amu'?" Doug whispered to himself. I snickered.
Atomic Mass Units. AMU.
"I forget," Mr. Deley sighed. "Always a mistake to underestimate a..."
"A villain?" Evie asked with a smile. She tossed the piece of chalk to him. "Don't make it again."
Evie started to walk back to her seat, but not before Chad handed her some piece of paper. She walked back to her seat, while giving Chad a dreamy look. This time, he was giving it back. She looked down at her note and read it, and so did Doug and I.
Meet me under the bleachers at 3
Evie looked up and nodded at Chad, who gave her his signature smile. Chad, Evie and Doug all rested their heads on their palms, but unlike the two lovebirds, Doug was not thrilled. I patted his back and sighed. However, I slightly leaned back, and whispered to Evie.
"Evie!"
She looked up suddenly, and then back towards me. "I like your mirror." Her mouth dropped slightly open, but I eased her worries. "Don't worry," I told her. I did a motion of sealing my lips and throwing away the key, and that made her do a silent laugh. I smiled at her, happy to have finally been able to talk to her a little.
Next, I leaned over to the still sad Doug's shoulder.
"Hey," I whispered into his ear. He looked up at me, with a sad expression.
"What."
"You should go spy on them later. You know, since I can't."
"And why can't you?" He asked me.
"Princessing stuff."
"That's always your excuse."I sighed, and started to pack up my stuff. Class wasn't over yet, but I always liked to have a head start.
"It's an easy one to pull. Speaking of Princessing stuff," I smirked at him, hoping to put a smile on his face. A small one did appear. "Next chemistry class, can you get me the notes and the homework. I have somewhere I have to be."
He sighed, almost like this was his everyday life, and nothing exciting happened to him. "Sure. I always do."
The bell rang, and I put my backpack on, and handed Doug his. Evie had already happily floated out of the room. Doug sighed, and gave me the puppy dog eyes.
"You know you love me," I joked with him.
"Remind me why we are friends again."
"Hey!"
"Kidding," he smirked as he took the bag from me.I smiled at him, and tried to cheer him up again. "You'll get her next time. I know you will."

I looked out the window as I shoved my shoes on. The ocean was a deep blue like always, and the Isle sat on the horizon. I tied my shoes, and stood up, walking over to the window, and I brought my hand to the glass. It was cold, but somehow inviting. I traced my finger around the Isle's silhouette.
I remember my father telling my brother and me stories of how he had sent all the villains to the Isle of the Lost after he had become king. He had told us how there would be wars between good and bad people, but that we always needed to be on the good side, because good would always prevail. But, after meeting the VKs, I wasn't so sure it was that simple. How could it all just be in black and white? I mean, none of us here in Auradon are straight up good and perfect. We all have our 'evil' or 'bad' times. And the VKs don't seem completely menesing and vicious either. They care about each other, and seem to be trying to fit in. So, how could someone categorize everyone as either good, or bad? And even if it could be done, how could just one person make that decision?
I walked over to look at myself in the mirror, trying to get out of my thoughts. I had on a baggy, long sleeve yellow crop top, and black skinny jeans. I twirled a strand of my hair around my finger, and quickly checked the time on my phone. I really needed to leave.
Suddenly, my phone rang. "Hey," I answered.
"Hey," Lonnie replied. "Where are you?"
I rolled my eyes. "I told you. I'm going to watch Ben coach Carlos on the field."
"Aw man!" She groaned. "I can't come. I completely forgot about that! I have The History of Elemental Magic next. But you go have fun watching your bae!"
"Lonnie! I don't even like him that way!"
"Tell me that once you come back. Unless you've changed your mind by the end of it," she laughed.
She was silent for a second, then suddenly perked up. "Oh! I was gonna ask you. Do you want to meet at Evie and Mal's dorm room after? I want to meet them!"
"Sure," I smiled. "Bye."
"Bye!"
I clicked off my phone, and ran out of my room to the field. I was going to be so late.
