In the forest on the outside of Beach City, in her cave lair Jasper sat crushing rocks in the palm of her hand.
"What is a gem without a diamond? What is a Jasper without an enemy? From the beginning I was just following orders and fighting for my diamond only to find out that I was fighting against my diamond all this time. Twice. In a row. Beaten every time. They said I was a perfect Jasper, but when I came back to Earth I was beaten by fusions, by corruption, and by my Lap... forget her. Jasper, you're a joke. Even after smashing me to pieces, Steven doesn't even want me anymore. 'Find something better to do with your life' he said. I suppose I have to, I've already failed at being what I am supposed to be." Jasper said self-loathing.
On a nearby boulder a purple bird perched,
"You know, for the longest time I felt like I was a failure."
Jasper looked at the bird which took the Amethyst leaning back on the rock.
"Oh, it's you. I suppose a runt like you would know all about failing." Said Jasper
Amethyst replied, "ugh, ya know, I don't have to be here. You've just been up here for days and Steven would've wanted me to check up on to you."
"That sounds like something my diamond would say." Said Jasper.
Amethyst said, "here I'll let it slide, but how about I help you find something to do with your life? I am a 'life coach' after all."
"Why would you help me, after everything I've put you through?" Said Jasper
Amethyst told her "Well, Steven is gone now and maybe I'm not the same Amethyst I was in the beginning. Helping someone like you might be what I need to grow. It's what he would've done."
"Fine," sighed Jasper, "Where do we start?"
Amethyst took Jasper by the hand. Jasper grimaced as Amethyst led the way.
"I think you and I have been on this Earth for far too long. Quartz's were made to see some action right?"
The pair stepped onto a warp pad and were transported across the galaxy by an engulfing beam of light.
"Where are we?" Asked Jasper.
The area was bleak with only blue cliffs in sight and dark grey soil all around.
"I dunno, it looks like some planet, maybe a moon." Nonchalantly replied Amethyst.
"Hmm. No life? No green? Looks great so far" Jasper smiled. "So what know?"
"Maybe you could build something?" Said Amethyst
"Do I look like a Bismuth to you?" Grunted Jasper.
"Maybe it's worth a shot"
Jasper muttered under her breath as she started stacking and punching rocks to her liking. Amethyst gave Jasper a thumbs up and shapeshifted into a bird and brought Jasper more pieces. The two worked for what seemed like days
"It's certainly an improvement," Amethyst said as they were all done.
The structure was not quite a cave, but not exactly a home either. It was crude, but it was also sturdy.
"Maybe it wasn't a total waste of time," said Jasper looking back at Amethyst concealing a smile.
Amethyst then said "It just needs one thing." She shape shifted into an owl this time and began to fly off into the distance as a blue blur ripped across the horizon and snatched her away.
"Amethyst?! What? Where?" Jasper started panting with and ounce of fear? Did she feel concern for the overcooked little gem she thought to herself? "Don't worry Amethyst, I'm coming," Jasper said as she started running in the direction of the blue blur, but there was no one to hear her.
