The Mountain Demon

Running for what seems like hours, you and Giyuu didn't speak a single word to each other for the whole trip.
Eventually arriving at the town, the town seemed to be still in development, some of the buildings weren't finished and most of the other completed buildings seemed temporary, you walked around trying to find some sort of inn to stay in. you eventually found one, it was the biggest building here and it only seemed to be the size of a regular 2 storey house, entering the reception, it was dimly lit, with one woman standing at the front desk, happily greeting us.
"いらっしゃいませ (welcome: customers only, yes there are multiple ways to say welcome" she said "are you travellers"
"Yes, we heard that there was some people going missing recently" Giyuu said to the reception lady
"Well yes, that's in the town 3 more kilometers more North" after realising that you were in the wrong town, you were almost out of the door before. "Wait before you go, it's getting kind of late, would you like to stay? For just one night" she sounded a bit desperate, as if no one has ever set foot in this establishment. Looking outside the sun had already set, so you and Giyuu eventually decided to stay for one night.
"Alright, we'll stay" you said
"I'm glad, the first night is free by the way, so can I please have your names"
"My name is Tomioka Giyuu" you thought for while, since you didn't have a last name, or at least you couldn't remember it, after getting looks from the lady and Giyuu to pick up the pace, you were feeling pressure in a situation that you shouldn't feel pressure in and blurted out the first thing that came in your mind.
"Tomioka! Tomioka (Y/N)!" Giyuu looked at you with a wide eyed shocked face, whilst you responded with a look of pleading for you to not come up with another name.
"Oh so are you both brothers?" she asked, Giyuu was about to respond no before you intervened
"Yes! Yes yes we are" you said, trying to speed up this process because you were freaking out for no reason.
"Oh, lovely, now I'll show you your room now" she stood up and you 2 followed her, whilst walking Giyuu put his hands on your shoulder and began to squeeze it hard, you started to wince in pain, Giyuu is obviously very irritated.
"Well, here's your rooms" she said opening the door, the room looked cozy with 2 beds, with bedside tables and lights, "well I'll see you tomorrow morning, good night" she closed the door,
"Well this looks cozy, right Giyuu... Giyuu?" Giyuu was emitting a dark aura
"How dare you associatie my name with yours!" Giyuu was angry, clearly.
"I'm sorry! It was the first thing that came to my mind!"
"And you couldn't just say (Y/N)?!"
"I was feeling pressured" you said more calmly in a more pouty voice
"Why?! There wasn't a reason for you to feel pressured!"
You both sat in silence for a little while.
"So are you going to help me with the demon? Or are you just going to sit around and watch?"
"The more demons you kill, the quicker I can get rid of you" Giyuu said very bluntly. You pouted even harder at that statement, he did not put that very lightly.

Around the break of dawn, you woke up and saw Giyuu tying back his hair into a ponytail (I forgot to mention that you cut your hair after you came back from the final selection).
"Let's go" Giyuu said and both of you picked up your swords and walked out of the door
"Glad you enjoyed your stay" the lady said "good luck on your investigation"
"Thank you ma'am" you said, walking outside to the waking town, your stomach started to grumble, after all you skipped dinner last night. "Is there a place where we can eat?"
"This town probably only has rations, if that other town is only a few kilometers aways, then I'm sure you can last until then"
'This guy, he's trying to torture me'
Your constant whining on the trip to the town has caused much annoyances for Giyuu, but he knew that it would all be worth it in the end. Arriving after an hour of traveling, the town looks a lot more bigger and well developed, all the buildings looked big and brand new, you gazed upon the architecture in much awe and wonder. Your eyes then drifted over a cold soba place, you rushed at almost light speed (not really), and entered the doors, everyone looked at you with weird looks whilst you were jumping up and down excitedly, Giyuu caught up with you but didn't try to pull you out, he seems just as interested.
"Hello sir, what would you like?"
"2 bowls of your basic soba dishes please!" Giyuu looked at you weird,
"I'll take 2 more bowls," Giyuu said anyway, and you gave him the same look.
You both sat down and waited
"Hey," you said, getting Giyuu's attention, "do you want to have a cold soba eating contest?"
Giyuu surprisingly smirked and you did the same, the bowls were placed on the table as the 2 of you got ready, people started to gather to watch, as the countdown reaches 0, both you picked up one of the bowls and started to suck up the noodles, people watched in awe as both of you were neck and neck, but after a couple of minutes you put down your bowl before Giyuu, he placed down his last bowl a few seconds later, you had a smug grin on your face and Giyuu looks irritated, everyone started to applause. You got the cold soba for free, whilst Giyuu paid for his and your share of the meal as punishment, and Giyuu kept his irritated expression for the rest of the day.
"So where do we start with the investigation?"
"We should consult the village leader, he would at least know something about the recent disappearances" you nodded your head agreeing with Giyuu. Both of you went to the building where the village chief resides, it was the biggest in the village. The village chief looked quite young, his hair was short and he wore a traditional styled kimono, he was also sitting on his knees.
"Hello, what brings you here today?"
"We are here to investigate the missing people recently"
"Ah yes, terrible, it has only been happening since 3 days ago, every night people are gone, just vanished without a trace"
"Has there been any people entering the town recently?"
"No, not for months" both of you thought over this, the demon must have stumbled across the town at night and entered whilst everyone was sleeping so that it wouldn't be seen, even then someone would have noticed someone new.
"Do you know any names that the victims have known before they disappeared?"
"Yes, one of them has been very desperate, by the name of Kato Akemi, she's been very worried ever since her fiance disappeared, she's come to my place several times, I think you need to pay her a visit and calm her down. She lives around 200 meters to the right after you exit the door, it's the building that says 衣料品店 (clothing store)"
"Right, thanks" both of you left the building and turned right like he said. You took the rest of the walk to sight see, since you've never been in a large town before. Since it was only 200 meters, both of you got to the store in a few minutes, the store looked well kept, all the different style of clothes were neatly stored and organised, the lady you were looking for was sitting at the front desk, her hair looked messy and unkempt with bags under her eyes, other than that she looked young, and had a beautiful figure.
"Welcome" she said, her voice sounded croaky from crying.
"We are here to investigate the missing people in this town, I heard that your fiance went missing"
"Oh, oh, yes, thank goodness you've come!" her voice still sounded shaky "my husband has been missing for 3 days, and I don't know where he's gone, please help me"
"Yes yes, ma'am that's why we're here, do you know where your husband would be?"
"Well, he goes to work at the rice fields about a kilometer away, that's where most of the men go to work, some haven't come back"
You looked at Giyuu and nodded.
"We will give you piece at the mind, we will find out what happened to your husband" you said
"Thank you, thank you so much"
"No worries" you said and walked out with Giyuu, but you stopped "say, where's the rice fields again?" she seemed to giggle
"It's West from here"
"Right! Thanks ma'am" you said and left, Giyuu was waiting outside, and left with you.
Around 12 pm you and Giyuu arrived at the rice fields.
"So what now?" you said
"Well it's early, so..." he turned around "I want you to show me what you can do" you looked a bit confused at the statement "by that I mean I want you to show me your breath forms, I've never seen a breath of water user have a deep red blade like yours"
You nodded and drew your sword, Giyuu looking at the patterns and colour in awe and seeing the engraving on the blade.
"I am a breath of the blood user, I created it during the final selection, breath of water wasn't working for me, so I created something stronger."
"Stronger? You say, show me"
You took a deep breath, you pulled your sword back next to your cheek.
'血液の曲 二の方　フリーズして停止 (blood breathing 2nd form: freeze and stop)' you thrusted the sword forward at a single point in a large rock and it crack and broke upon being frozen (by frozen as in more cold)
"Impressive, except with water is more flexible and easier to control"
He did the same move to another large rock (漆しちノ型かた 雫しずく 波は紋もん突づき曲 seventh form), it pierce straight through the rock and it cracked on impact due to the force and speed. You were in awe, but compared to your performance which broke the rock into pieces, not as much.
"If you think destructive power trumps over everything then you're wrong, your demonstration was slow, but with more practice you will become faster"
For hours have passed when you and Giyuu were training, the sun was beginning to set, the demon should be coming out soon. The men were leaving the rice fields, you and Giyuu watched all the men leave, except there weren't any attacks.
"That's strange, maybe the demon already attacked?"
"Or, it has a different target" the realisation hit you as Giyuu said those words, the rice fields were not that high, but were certainly tall enough for someone to hide in, darkness was falling quicker, your eyes weren't used to working in very dark places, so you relied on your other senses, hearing the wind rustling the rice crops and if there is a disturbance in the field, but you did not pick up anything (I'm talking like you're a measuring device XD). Using your aura senses to pick up any new auras, but instead you found over 15 aura energies, all the same kind and all surrounding you, your head started to ache, as you couldn't wrap your head around the amount of auras you are detecting, you knelt down clutching your head.
Giyuu knelt down and put his hand on your back, you turned off this ability and your head stopped aching.
"I don't get it" you said still clutching your head
"What don't you get?"
"I can detect different auras, including demons, except I'm detecting multiple auras, which I don't understand" you stood up and stepped forward once, and you detected something travelling at extreme speeds, coming your way, you couldn't see it, but you knew it was coming you ducked out of the way and it barely scraps passed your hair. "Did you see that?"
"Yes" Giyuu responses "I guess I was right the first time, the demon has found its new target"
Standing up now back to back with Giyuu turning around to observe the rice fields. A feeling of uneasiness hung over you, as the first demon of your first mission already counters your ability. Both of you drew your swords and held it out in front of them, prepared for whatever happens next. For some reason, in your head, you got an idea, you raised the sword and gently tapped the floor, now looking another spinning object came out of the crops aimed directly at where the head would be.
"I think we are stuck in a minefield" you told Giyuu
"What the hell is a minefield?" Giyuu whispered yelled at you "I don't know, it sort of just... came up in my head" you responded back.
Looking around for anyways to get out, the projectile seemly fired instantaneously, 'there must be a way for that demon to be able to see us' you thought about the placement of the traps, they could not have been there all the time, or else someone would have found out a demon lived here a long time ago.
"How are we going to do this Tomioka-san?"
"You have your ability to sense auras right? You nodded "that includes moving objects and where it has been thrown right?"
"Where is this going?"
"If you can, then I want to focus on movement only, I will trigger the trap, then you will find out where it's coming from" Giyuu touched the floor with his sword and another projectile fired, trying your best to detect it, you eventually narrowed it down from the origin that dispersed the rice fields, and eventually found the shooter. "Have you found it yet?"
"Yes, it's around 100 metres that way" you pointed into the rice fields, Giyuu turned to face that direction.
"You did a good job, now leave the rest to me, the next mission however you will do alone" he takes a few steps back.
'水の曲弐にノ型かた 水みず車 (water breathing, 2nd form: water wheel)' he rushed forward and spun around (vertically) and used to momentum to accelerate himself forward, whilst cutting the projectiles thrown at him in the process, covering a distance of about 80 metres, Giyuu kept on rushing forward, the breath form no longer activated, he relied on dodging and jumping to avoid getting hit. Jumping up at where the approximate location of the demon was and it turns out that you were right. The demon came out of its hiding spot, exposing the veins in its pale skin, long hair and deep red eyes, it brought out its hands, but Giyuu already expected that and cut both of the demon's hands off.
Jumping back to avoid any other attacks from Giyuu, he pursued the demon and was about to cut its head off, until. It has already healed its hands. It brought them back, Giyuu, unprepared for the attack he took them head on, you saw that the projectiles seemed to have fired from its nails, it shot 10 and all of them landed in Giyuu's shoulders, puncturing straight through them.
"GIYUU!!" you shouted, running into the rice fields, the demon 'reloaded(?)' and shot another 5 in your direction, deflecting the nails with your sword you continued charging.
"(Y/N)! Behind you!" Giyuu called out, turning around you saw another spinning nail aimed for your neck, with not enough time to fully deflect it, you brought the sword forward and redirected it into your right shoulder, falling on knee, blood started to gush out of your wound.
Laughing, the demon picked up Giyuu by the hair and prepared to slash his neck off, knowing that you did not have enough time to rush to it, but it certainly did not expect what would happen next.
You threw your sword like a spear, with your working left arm at extreme precision it stuck in the demon's neck, caught off guard and you used the remaining energy left in your body to run and grab the sword.
'血液の曲　三の方　血液抽出物 (3rd form: blood extract)' you pulled back as an array of colourful red came out of the demon's neck in a beautiful constant stream, the demon let go of Giyuu and now with a clear and open guard, you brought the sword back and cut the demon's head off.
Now without any energy you fell down on your knee, but crawled to Giyuu.
"Well, you did it, I'm impressed," Giyuu said, still laying down, he eventually stood up and looked at you, a small grin appeared on his face, you gave your iconic smirk.
