— BETTY'S POV —
When we walked in, everyone was already there, and there was only one table that was empty. Thank god there was one though, I don't know what I'd do if there wasn't.
(a/n: MsG - Ms. Griffin; English teacher)
MsG: Betty! There you are! I thought you weren't here, I got worried. And who is this with you?
B: Oh, this is Jughead.
J: Jughead Jones.
Ms. Griffin walks over to her desk and clicks off my name in attendance, and looks for Jughead's name.
MsG: I'm sorry, I don't see your name here, wait, is it Forsythe Jones?
J: Yeah, and surprisingly, I prefer Jughead.
MsG: Okay, duly noted. I'm Ms. Griffin.
J: Pleasure to meet you *they shake hands*
I feel everyone staring at us as we walk over to the empty table.
We take a seat, put our bags down and take out our books. Jug grabs my hand from under the table and I feel myself relax.
— later —MsG: So, after reading that passage from Homer's Odyssey, what is one of the epic hero traits that is shown by Odysseus?
No one raises their hands.
MsG: Betty?
B: Uhh....
I see Jughead writing something down and slides it across to me.
It says:
Odysseus demonstrates his strength when facing the challenge of surviving after his ship and crew were taken by the whirlpool of Charybdis. ♡︎
I look up and as Jug squeezes my hand and smiles at me reassuringly.B: Uh.... *repeats what the note says*
MsG: Yes. Odysseus does show strength during The Odyssey.
I smile and look at Jug, who's also smiling.
B: *whispers* Thank you
J: *whispers* Of course.
— after school —
I walk out of my last period class and look for Jug or Toni. After about a minute I spot Jug and walk up to him.J: Everything alright?
B: Yeah, it's either it's weird actually having friends, or I'm not used to getting all this attention when I'm around you.
J: Okay, but it shouldn't scare you, I can shut them up in .2 seconds if they're asses.
B: *giggles*
J: *mumbles* that giggle's gonna be the death of me.
B: What?
J: Huh?
B: Did you say something?
J: Oh, no, it's nothing.
B: Okay...
B: *changes subject* So, how'd you know the answer to that question?
J: Well, I've always been a little bit of a book nerd, and I was reading almost any book that I could get my hands on, and recently I've started to write, and I love it.
B: You, the Serpent King, a writer?!
J: *blushes and looks down, smiles* yeah...
J: I know it's not very impressive...
B: Are you kidding?! It's so cool! I've tried to write, but it never really works out. I would love to read some of your work sometime.
I look up at him and see his face light up. I don't think that he's ever thought that someone would genuinely want to read his work.
J: Really?!
B: Absolutely.
I interlock my hand with his and see the eyes of everyone in the hall.
J: *whispers in her ear* Ignore them.
I tried to, since Jug is in such a good mood, and we walk out of the school, hand in hand. But, inside, it was really hard walking through those halls with everyone staring at us, talking about us, and judging, without being able to run away. But, Jug was amazing. He saw that I was hiding my mini panic attack and gave me a reassuring hand squeeze.
He then gives all of the serpents that looked at us in their judging way a stern look, to say 'fuck off bitches,' and they immediately stopped. He's amazing. I can't say it enough.
We got on his bike and he took me to his trailer.
B: Thank you, for that.
J: For what?
B: When the serpents looked at us, you immediately told them off. It was very sweet that you did that for me.
J: Whatever makes you believe that you're good enough for me at the end of the day.
B: But I-
