I PUT my earphones in and stepped outside. Logan and I inhaled deeply before breathing out heavily. It smelled like petrol and dirt mixed in with scents of good food, but it was better than suffocating in hell. It was smoke all day long.
We walked along the street with no aim..really all we wanted to do was see things and eat our asses away. James said we should take every opportunity to learn this place because it's huge, and someone could easily get lost.
We chose to go by bus and mark down every bus we took. That way we know what bus goes where and how to get back home. We stood by a sign that had the words bus stop on it. There, there were at least 15 people dressed in different colours, waiting for a bus. Just in front of us there was a hole where even more people emerged, either walking a dog, talking on the phone, you name it, they were doing it. Even pissing on the stairs. Yea, that guy has my respect too.
I read the bus list. "Yo Logan where you wanna go first?"
"First off, I think we should go by train. It's way more fun. Secondly I got my eyes on High Line Park." Logan stated.
"So why can't we go by bus?"
"Because the only instructions are for train."
"Guess what? I don't care. We're going by bus...I'm claustrophobic okay..."
"But-"
"If you argue with me I'll push you in front a fucking train."
Everyone stared at me.
"Stop looking at me like that..Or y'all goin' with him!" I said.
They all looked away in fear.
"Dunno why people are so scared of you and your tantrums." Logan said.
"I don't do tantrums."
"Yeah you say so."
A bus marked: 23rd Street pulled up in front us.
"That's the one we want." Logan stated.
We took up our bags and pushed in front of the people trying to enter. We got a couple seats to the very back. Logan let me sit closer to the window just in case people started to pile in.
We sat in silence, looking at the passing buildings. It was hard to remember we were here on a mission, because like the first time we got here, everything was just..new. There were people walking on the streets, actually knowing where they wanted to go on the spot. In hell, you needed a plan to just leave the house so you won't get eaten alive.
I was thinking about this and other things, when my phone suddenly started ringing. Almost everyone in the bus turned their heads to me, which I responded with a death stare and a hiss, which definitely scared them.
It was James. "Hey wassup James?" I asked.
"Good news and bad news." he said with a hint of worry.
"Hit me with the bad one first. I'm used to disappointment."
"Angels know of the portals. They found Logan's shoe at the barrier and they're tracing it back to the bar. Logan's dad explained everything about how to make portals to earth and now they're on their way here to eliminate you and other demons."
I glared at Logan and he gave me a shrug of embarrassment, like he already knew of his mistake.
"Shit.." I muttered. "What's the good news then?"
"We have a lock-down on the whereabouts of your sister Star Light."
