THE car pulled up in front of a tall mansion-like building. Logan and I stared at it in awe. Maybe my dad's kingdom was bigger than this, but the place where he put us to live wasn't even half the size of this place.
The driver gave us a friendly nod when we got out of the car, and before we could thank him (I know, surprising right?) we were left in car dust.
Logan excitedly walked in, his face still covered with cupcake crumbs. I followed after, in my usual dark clothes with little specks of blood from my first death.
"Welcome to Seaside Hotel. How may I assist you two tonight?" the lady at the desk asked, without looking up.
According to James, we were to give them the code names "Moonshine Lilac" and "Logan Peterson". I don't know what parent names a child after a flower or a colour or whatever, but I took it as is and moved on.
"Um...we're looking to stay in a room...here...Uh, our names are Moonshine Lilac and Logan Peterson..." I said.
That's good enough for polite, right?
The lady nodded and looked at her screen. "Ah, room 265."
She looked up to give us the keycard and I swear she looked horrified and as if she wanted to throw up. Her eyes were so wide open they were twitching.
Logan stopped eating the complement sweets and looked at her. "What...?" he asked with confusion.
She gave us the keycard slowly with the same expression, and put her other hand over her eyes.
So much for polite people.
Logan and I finally found our way to our room after a lot of confusion, screams and weird looks. We entered and it was even more beautiful than we imagined.
"Bro...look at this shit..." Logan said in awe while opening and closing the fridge.
I sat on the bed and it felt like heaven. It didn't feel like sharp nails digging into my back like back at home, but it felt soft and bouncy. The shower was a stained glass standing area with running hot AND cold water. There was actually a toilet and not a wooden box to shit in which the family took turns in emptying. The kitchen had a microwave and the counter was marble. There were 3 tables, one like the casino bar one, with the chairs and all, one which was a casual dining table, and a coffee table in front of a large television. The couch behind the coffee table was also soft and bouncy.
The two of us spent the night figuring out how everything works, luckily with a guide James left behind for us. I remembered to call him before crashing on the couch with Logan to watch a marathon of any shows that seemed interesting.
It was weird...somewhere around this time yesterday I was crying about not being able to get here, and now, here I was, in a room all for myself, where dad couldn't come for me even if he tried. For the first time I could say, "everything was perfect".
Logan said he was gonna sleep on the couch tonight since he wanted me to sleep in a proper bed. Being the son of the owner of the biggest casino in hell itself, Logan pretty much got what he wanted after decades of begging - that including a proper comfortable bed. It's crazy to know how a casino owner's son gets better stuff than the king of the land's daughter.
That night I sat on my bed, facing a glass window which showed me New York (apparently that's where we are) in another beauty. It wasn't quiet and dead at this time like it would be in hell, with demons fearing to leave home because of night burglars and killers who would take your life in a split second, instead it was loud and lively. Just when you thought you had heard every sound, another came out of nowhere.
I used this thing called "WiFi" in the place. There was actually internet. And there were apps for the phone too. I checked the App Store for some, and there were many social online platforms such as this thing called "Instagram". "Facebook" was another option, but I'd rather not because who names an app Facebook?
I created an Instagram account and posted my first picture, which was my view of New York from here. With that done, I let the sounds of the city drift me to sleep.
