( italic words are Hyun-Jin or Johnny in the present time! This won't start until the story begins you'll see! )
"Tell us, Hyun-Jin Lee, what made you want to be an idol?" "How hard was it?"
Those are questions I get a lot, and I can't give answers."
"I can!"
"Be quit Johnny! This is my live!"
For some people, these are typical questions that are easy to answer, but for me, there are so many experiences I had.
I guess if someone asks me why I wanted to be an idol I have to go back to when I first met Johnny.
It's 2020, and all this started in 2000 when we were both 5 years old.

"Hyun-jin, you need to come inside!" It was late and Johnny and I were playing baseball outside. When I heard my mom yell its time to go inside for dinner.
"I'll see you tomorrow Hyun! School starts, I'll walk with you to the bus stop!" I nodded and went inside before I got in trouble for not listening.
"I forgot! My mom is Korean, my dad is from Chicago! Back to the story!"
"Hyun-jin, you need plenty of rest for your studies tomorrow, also your dancing lessons you have begged me to let you take!" I finish eating and I get ready for bed. I get into bed and I turn off the lights and I sleep.
--------
The alarm goes off and I get up and put on the stupid school uniform and I go get my breakfast and my lunch my mom packed for me. "Go meet Johnny outside! Have a good day sweetie and I'll pick you and Johnny up for dance class after school."
"Hey Hyun! You're slow! Keep up!" Johnny was taller than me so he was a lot faster than I, but I tried to keep up. I was out of breath when we got to the bus stop and he said: "you're too much of a girl!" Messing up my black hair, I fixed my hair, and then I kicked him in the leg "you are so mean to me!" I started to tear up, but he gave me a hug and said "only playing. You are my best friend!"
"I never said that!" "Yes, you did Johnny!" "Whatever!"
The bus came not long after that and I got to sit with my friends and Johnny sat with me. He always got along with everyone.
"Yes! That is correct!" "I'm going to lock you in a closet if you keep talking!"
We made it to the school and we go into the 1st-grade classrooms. Which is on the second floor of the building. Which made me feel powerful, I was the smartest in the class.
School is long as usual and lunchtime has finally arrived. Unfortunately, we had lunch at different times, but I sat with my friends. I would see Johnny in the halls and he would make me trip and then help me back up.
"You make me sound like a bully!" "Well, you are! You keep interrupting me!"
After school that day we both went to the dance classes we both decided to take. The first day was very difficult for me, but for Johnny not so much. He knew he could dance so I didn't understand why he was here. We both loved it and I told my mom that I loved dancing and I can sing already. My mom told me to try and become a k-pop idol.
I didn't tell Johnny about my decision at that time. I wasn't sure if that is what I wanted to do. So I kept it a secret until 2007.
I just turned twelve and the talent show for the grade was in a few days. My birthday is in April and Johnny is the same age, his birthday is in February. We both entered as a duet, he doesn't know I can sing, but he is about to find out.
*Day of talent show*
"Are you ready Hyun?"
"No, but if I don't do it now I never will"
"Let's have fun!"
We sang Irreplaceable by Beyonce the most popular song at the time. ( Authors note, I wanted to use the song that Johnny actually auditioned with, but I couldn't find it! For now, that will work. )
Everyone was shocked we had everyone on their feet. I noticed someone in the back of the room on his cell phone. After we got off the stage I ran into Johnny's arms.
"We did amazing! Thank for you convincing me to do this!"
"I love confidence and positive things, if you didn't do that you would have regretted it."
"Hyun-Jin and Johnny please report to center stage."
I look at him in concern and he gave me a confident smile "it's SM Entertainment coming for us!"
"First of all how did you know about me wanting to be an idol, second I didn't know you wanted to be an idol."
"Your mom. Also, it's been a dream to perform. We should go before they say forget it."
I noticed that he didn't say what he wanted to say, but at that time I didn't know any better. I was still very worried about why they called us back to the stage after our performance.
"Would you two like to become trainees for..."
So many thoughts went through my head at once, like our childhood. Playing baseball until late at night. This was a dream of mine, but what would happen to our friendship. I just came back into the room when I hear a loud voice scream "we're in!"
I didn't have a chance to answer, I just had to agree.
"Great, the boy will go for SM, while the girl will go for BigHit."
I was shocked but then Johnny said: "wait, I didn't want us to be separated!"
"Sorry, no girl groups for SM yet, but BigHit yes. Do you want it or not?"
"I need a minute!" I shouted and I ran backstage trying to contain my excitement and fear.
What was I going to do? This was a big chance for me to make my family proud. I was about to cry when I heard him say:
"We will be fine."
