The next day came sooner than expected to Carli. It seemed that as soon as her parent's had told her about the situation time sped up as if it had a vendetta against her. One minute she was sobbing on the floor and the next she was waking up the next morning. Before she knew it, she was getting ready to be sold as if she were an object to people she had never even met.
The 18 year old contemplated getting breakfast but soon realised it would just make her anxious nausea worse. As much as she didn't want this to happen, she knew exactly what would happen to her if the family didn't take her with them. "I mean, you never know they may be really nice..."
As she was wondering about the family, she heard a knock from the other side of the door. The knock was followed by her mother rudely barging into her room. "Good. You're awake. Make sure you wear something classy. Nothing that hides your body proportions, it has to be completely form fitting. Maybe get your boobs out a little as well, I'm sure their son would like to see a little of the goods they're buying for him." She giggled in a way that made her skin crawl. Her mother slammed the door, causing her to jump a little.
Instead of focusing on the words her mother had spewed from her mouth, she decided to focused on getting ready and making a good impression on the family. First, she picked out her outfit. She sifted and sorted through her closet until she found an outfit that she was happy with. She had decided on an emerald green bodycon dress, woven from soft satin fabric. It had thick straps that plunged into a v-neck, both at the front and the back. She paired it with silver heels that had intricate and elegant leaf detailing on the heal, spreading to the rest of the shoe a little. The silver matched with the jewellery her parents had brought her so that the colours didn't look sudden and subtly added dimensions to the look.
Next, she worked on her makeup. She decided on a simple look that incorporated the colours of her outfit. Emerald green faded into a soft silver near the corner of her eyelids. A bit of mascara and cat eye eyeliner topped off the look. After that she did the usual face makeup and she was ready to go.
She put on the diamond jewellery and slipped her shoes on. Just as she was attempting to stand in the heels and tight clothes, her mother came barging in her room, once again.
"Good. You're ready. Come downstairs within the next five minutes, they'll be here by then. I guess even make up and nice clothes can't fix a disaster, better hope they buy you." She scoffed and exited the room.
Carli had to admit that hearing that hurt but she had learnt to ignore the comments her parents made long ago. If she didn't, it just causes unnecessary suffering to her. "In one ear, out the other." She thought to herself as she took a few breaths before beginning to make her way downstairs.
She looked around her room one last time and sighed wistfully, before turning and walking out of the room. With every step she took down the hall, anxiety grew within her. It felt as if there was a dark cloud floating above her, watching and judging her every move. However, even with all the deep and dark thoughts going on in her mind, the thought she decided to focus on was "These shoes are gonna kill my feet..." She groaned internally at the thought of the blisters that would inevitably form on her feet during the day.
After what seemed like forever, she finally entered the living room. To her relief, no one unfamiliar was there yet. She sighed gratefully and hopped onto the sofa. Almost immediately a loud, booming voice sounded through the room.
"Don't sit like that! Cross your legs like a lady. Jesus Christ, don't want them to think we're selling them a slut, do we?" Her father spoke with malice thick in his voice. She simply nodded and crossed one leg over the other, not wanting to agitate her parents any further.
The sound of a knock on the door startled her, making her jump for the second time that way. She tried her best to just sit up straight with a smile on her face. Growing up with parents like hers meant she had mastered acting and pleasing people through it. And she was gonna put on the goddamn best performance of her life to get out of that house.
Two unfamiliar people walked through to the living room with her parent's. She stood up and bowed deeply to greet them, showing them a smile as genuine as she could put on as they came to sit down.
"Hello, Carli, is it? It's such a pleasure to meet you. The way your parents described you makes you out to be such a wonderful girl and it seems you live up to those expectations! You'll be a delightful bride for my son." The woman smiled widely back at her.
"I'm happy I live up to your expectations. I deeply hope I continue to, ma'am." She bowed once again, before shaking the woman's hand firmly but gently. She greeted the father in the same way.
"Speaking of my son, Jimin! Come in, sweetie!" She yelled as both her and her husband sat down in the opposing sofa. Small footsteps along with a slight clearing of the throat could be heard from the hall. As soon as he stepped through the door, Carli was at a loss for words. She was near breathless at how handsome the man who stood before her was.
"Holy fuck! He's hot, he's hot, he's hot, he's hot! This could have been so much worse than this, thank fuck!" Her thought ran wild. She did her best to not show any reaction to his appearance but apparently she couldn't conceal it completely as two stifled giggles could be heard from his parents.
"Hi, I'm Jimin!" He smiled at her and waved slightly, before bowing slightly towards her. Carli followed his actions as a response.
"Hi, I'm Carli! It's nice to meet you." She smiled widely at him, which he responds fully as he sat down next to his parents.
"Actually, before you sit down, Jimin. We were wondering if the two of you could go into the boardroom and get to know each other a little. We have some final business to clear up before she comes with you." Her mother asked, smiling between the two of you.
"Ah, yes, of course! I'd love too! Carli?" He asked, looking at her as if checking if she was okay with it.
"Of course! Let's go, I'll show you where it is!" She jumped up from the sofa and bowed goodbye to both his parents and hers, eventhough neither deserved the respect with what they were doing.
"I have to be in a room alone with a man this hot. How on Earth am I gonna survive?! I mean, I guess I should use this time to show him my exact feelings about this before he gets the wrong idea." She thought as she led Jimin through the hallway and into the boardroom in complete silence.
