She fell with a silent grace; cold wind rushing past her. She could have sworn someone called her name. But she knew that it couldn't be true. She was alone like she always had been. The ground felt near, the treetops probably only a few feet below. She resigned herself and let it all go. Accepting her decision.
She screamed as strong arms caught her. Warm on her freezing skin. It was enough to smack her back into reality. Panic and fear of what was happening seemed to stick to her like mud. Her eyes flung open and the the smell hit her. Cassian.
Rage seemed to boil up in her but as soon as it did the numbness leached in and extinguished it. She couldn't see his face but the ferocity and panic that rippled from him filled her nose and she felt dizzy.
He reached the top of the cliff she fell from in seconds and landed softly. His breathing heavy. His dark hair disheveled and tossed about. He didn't let her go as he stood there. Not tell she pushed off him and stood there trying to find something to say. But he beat her too it.
"Why." He said a dark tremble to his voice. She looked away from him and studied the ground.
"Tell me why Nesta. Tell me why you would do that." He said rage and anger now coating his voice. Nestas eyes snapped to his and the familiar anger snapped back.
"It's none of your business Cassian." She growled at him crossing her arms. Not only from the cold but from the rage that simmered a cold intensity In her gut. He looked up and met her eyes, cold worry and concern were there. He looked her up and down and he seemed to tense. She looked away and let out a small breath.
"It is my business Nesta. We are all worried about you." He growled softly. He took a step towards her and she took a step back. He stopped and hurt flashed deeper in his eyes. She sucked in a breath trying to keep herself centered, looking anywhere but at Cassian.
She felt his hand on her shoulder and she couldn't hold it back anymore. She let out a sob she tried so desperately to keep in. Tears spilled so heavily down her cheeks as she furiously wiped at them.
Cassian pulled her in and she didn't try to fight him. Something breaking in her soul.
He pet her head softly as he held her to his chest. She took in a deep breath, taking in his scent. She lighty hit her fist on his chest as she let her sobs fill the silence between them.
Why? Why was she letting him near her. Why did she want him here. Why had she felt him as she stepped over that edge. She slowly stopped crying and looked up into cassians eyes, shocked filled her as he too had silver lining his eyes.
She opened her mouth to say something but she simply closed her mouth, finding nothing to say. Sensing her need to fill the silence, her reached to her face brushing hair and tears from her face.
" I promised to protect you and your sister. And I ment it. I also ment what I said at the end of the war. My only regret was that we didn't get more time. And that id find you in another time if I had too," He said a soft breaking tone laced his words. "Please don't leave me here without you. Yell at me every day if you need too. Tell me you hate me. Tell me you are tired of my existence. Just don't leave me here." He finished, his wings pulling in tight.
Nesta was at a loss for words and she simply laid her head down on his chest.
"I don't hate you." She said, her words cold but honest. She closed her eyes fighting the headache and unrelenting tired that pulled her to sleep.
"Can you take me home." She asked almost silently. She felt him shift and scoop her up. Before she could rethink they were soaring through the air. Sleep so tempting against his warm chest. So she let herself pass out in his strong arms.
