A short story about the life of Katherine Russo- the CEO of the nation-wide news outlet 'Cup of Truth' and Jamie Caldwell- the head of 'Flash'- the leading brand in women's fashion as they both decide to tie the knot in accordance with their parents...
•Jamie• I stepped out of the car to find Katherine waiting for me by the wooden door, swinging her keys around and fiddling with the mirror on her bike.
On seeing me, she stood up straight and crossed her arms. 'Should've know you're a slow poke,' she quipped.
She had offered me a ride but I had to refuse, considering the fact that she only had one helmet and I had no interest in dying.
I fixed my tie and walked up to her. She opened up the door to reveal a modern-ish house with all white carpets and sleek black floating shelves lining the light grey walls. She led me through the living room and entered the dining room. I found my parents sipping tea with Katherine's mom. Her mother popped another sugar cube into her cup and tucked a stray grey hair strand behind her ear. On seeing me, her eyes lit up and she shot out of her seat.
She gestured to a vacant sleek black chair beside my parents and said, 'Oh, you're here. Please take a seat.'
I saw my parents shooting glances at me, surprise eminent on their faces as I took my seat. I bent over a little to see their dog- Darling- peeping out of a bag and rolled my eyes. Who gets a dog to a marriage proposition? I politely thanked Mrs. Russo for inviting me and apologised for being late with a small bow. She simply smiled and nodded.
Katherine excused herself and went upstairs to- what I can only assume- her room. She took quick gentle steps up the carpeted stairs and came out twenty minutes later, wearing a short white dress with bright sunflowers all over it. Her red and black biking suit was gone now and she had floral pins holding up her dark brown, slightly unruly, hair. She walked down with her yellow heels making a soft clacking sound against the stairs and gave her mother a soft smile.

She had some makeup on now- a light blush on her cheekbones and her nose seemed to shine. Her lips were tinted a soft peach and her eye lids also shimmered. Her twenty minute transformation was almost surprising.
She went into the kitchen and quickly came out with a serving of fruit juice and macaroons. She kept smiling big and offering small bows towards my parents. It was difficult to believe that the same woman was sitting on my conference table, shredding important papers in the middle of a meeting, a little less than an hour ago.
After our families talked for a while, they suggested that we take some 'alone time' to 'get to know each other.' I nearly scoffed at the ridiculous idea. Here they are, planning an arranged marriage with someone who I barely know and they want us to spend some alone time. As if thirty minutes with her is going to make me fall in love. It wouldn't even make me remotely okay with this, if I'm being honest.
We walked out of the dining room and went to the courtyard. She and I sat down on some white chairs around a small table. My eyes followed her hands in confusion as she removed two papers and pens from the drawer and handed one set to me.
