A short story about the life of Katherine Russo- the CEO of the nation-wide news outlet 'Cup of Truth' and Jamie Caldwell- the head of 'Flash'- the leading brand in women's fashion as they both decide to tie the knot in accordance with their parents...
•Jamie• Anil knocked on my office door but before I could ask him to come in, the glass door flung open to reveal Katherine wearing her wedding attire. She had on a short, shoulder length veil with flowers tucked into her neatly tied up hair along with the dress that Marie had designed for her and some simple white heels.
She was absolutely gorgeous.
Dressed in white from head to toe, she looked beautiful. A little different than the usual Katherine, but absolutely stunning. I had no words so all I could do was stare at her with my mouth wide open.
I noticed Merlin standing behind her, the tail of her dress bundled up in one of his hands, a pale pink flower bouquet in the other.
Katherine strutted up to me, walking as fast as those heels could take her, her face splashed with a tinge if urgency. 'We have to get married right now,' she said, panting and trying to catch a breath.
My eyes popped out of their sockets. We had the venue and the wedding all planned out for tomorrow yet, here she was- standing in a wedding gown saying we had to get married right now.
The scariest thought flashed through my mind. 'Did I forget my own wedding day?' I thought to myself, mentally preparing to die at Katherine's hands.
'We cannot go for the wedding tomorrow. My mom invited the whole world.' Her words seemed rushed and croaky as she tried to take deep breaths.
I gave her a quizzical look. Our parents agreed to a small wedding so I didn't understand why something like this would happen. Her mom definitely didn't seem like the type to pull a move like this. The only one I knew who would do something like this was-
The realisation suddenly dawned on me. It had to be my mom. She's always been nosy that way and she had a way of getting things to go her way. I called her and she picked up almost immediately.
'Katherine and I are getting married at city hall today so cancel the plans for tomorrow.' I tried to sound calm but I was really annoyed. I heard her protest from the other end. 'It shouldn't be much of a problem since we only invited immediate family in the first place, right?' I heard a feeble 'right' from the other end as mom sighed deeply.
'My mom is in on the conspiracy too. Let's go get married.' I kissed Kat on the cheek and Anil brought out my wedding suit. I changed as fast as I could while Katherine got settled down in the car. By the time I came down, she was still trying to stuff the dress into the car. I laughed, picking up bundles of her dress and pushing it into the car before getting in.
Life seems to have its own plans for us. *~*~*~
I loosened the tie and undid the first button, relaxing into the stiff wooden chair. Katherine's wedding dress now reached her knees and she didn't seem too upset about it. While getting out of the car, the dress ripped. She didn't waste a single second ripping up the rest of it as evenly as she could till it was a white knee length dress with slits on the side.
I couldn't help but smile when I looked at her. She seemed more like herself now- gulping down a cheese croissant faster than a hungry lion in a ripped up dress that she could possibly fight in.
Although it was boring, sitting and waiting for them to call on us, she made it worth it. We'd been waiting for two hours and Katherine was as entertaining as ever. The only podcast she had downloaded was some biology podcast and it almost bored me to sleep- the permanent kind, but she kept laughing at the lame jokes and puns, enjoying it like a total nerd.

She scarfed down the last bite of croissant before she turned to look at me, only to catch me already staring at her. I averted my gaze as she smiled softly.
'I don't understand why'd you would agree to an arranged marriage,' she said, removing a bottle of water from a little paper bag, 'I could be a cannibal for all you know. Isn't it better to marry someone you know and love?' She offered me the bottle, holding the cap in one hand.
I shook my head to say no and she proceeded to take a sip. 'You can never really know someone. No matter how honest they are, you can never predict what they like, what they would do, what they feel. And I think love is a foolish thing to believe in.'
She snorted at that. 'I thought you were the philosophical art student, but did I take the wrong impression?' she took another sip, her eyes sparkling playfully.
I nudged her with my elbow and asked, 'You must know that love is just a 7 year hormonal response. Do you believe in it?'
She took a pause, like she was dabbling with what she believed in then turned to me. 'When I was younger, I never really believed in love. While my high school and college classmates looked for their perfect guy, I spent my time playing the field. I figured, love doesn't exist so might as well have some fun. I hurt some people, broke some hearts and I regret it now but back then, I felt powerful that something like love could never affect me. I felt that love would just weaken me.'
I rested my face in my hands, locking my eyes with hers. 'I'm guessing you believe in love now. Then why are you getting into an arranged marriage?' Half of me knew that it's probably not me that pulled her into the marriage but the other half desperately wished for the unreasonable reply.
'My mom believes in arranged marriages because love marriage did not work out too well for her. She went against her family for a man who didn't deserve it and she regrets it. Since she's so against love marriages, I agreed to this.' She shrugged lightly, staring at the bubbles in the bottle.
It felt as though she wasn't going to answer the 'love' question so I was about to leave it alone when she spoke in a soft whisper, 'Over time I started thinking that since love is a word, it must exist. Someone wouldn't have coined a word without feeling something they couldn't describe using the other words. So I believe love exists. It's probably just that we don't know anything about it. We don't know for sure if it's a once in a lifetime thing or if it is only romantic, we don't know enough about it so I guess, we can only wait till we feel something that no together word describes well enough. Till we feel something that makes us want to make a new word.'
I smiled softly and laid a soft peck on her forehead before she pulled away, grimacing and wiping the spot where I kissed her.
She's more of a romantic than I thought. She feels more than I thought. She's so much more than anyone could comprehend.
She makes me want to believe in 'love' and 'happily ever after's.
~~~ A/N: A lot of what she believes in is also what I believe in so there's a lot of me in this character. I hope you guys are liking it. Don't forget to vote and comment and have a wonderous day <3
