Jamie and I were sitting on his bed, an awkward silence taking over the room. Merlin had the movers shift most of my stuff to Jamie's house since we'd agreed to live at his place. I had a separate room but married people are supposed to stay in the same room- right? It's like a weird unsaid rule that if you aren't sleeping in the same bed, your marriage is failing. Dumb rule if you ask me but still.I felt Jamie shift and I shot up. I turned to see him staring at me quizzically, his eyebrows scrunched up and his head tilted to the side. I fidgeted restlessly, shaking my foot and cracking my knuckles. I thought I was ready for this but I guess not. I took a step backwards, crashing into a wall and the whole room went dark.
I could feel my cheeks heating up. I found the switch and put on the lights as fast as I physically could. I didn't want Jamie to get the wrong idea.
'That was a mistake,' I stammered nervously. He got off the bed and cane closer. I tried taking a step back but I was pressed against the wall. He blinked slowly- like a cat trying to understand what was going on.
He touched my cheek with the back of his hand and his eyebrows shot up in concern. 'Why is your face so warm?' he asked, shifting his hand to my forehead, then to my neck. 'Do you have a fever?'
I shook my head to say no and stood up as straight as I could. I tried to hide my nervousness but I knew I was failing miserably at it. I pushed his hand away and it fell limply to his side.
He looked at my hands, shaking restlessly and then locked his eyes with mine. He came even closer and I could feel his warm breath mingling with mine. My knees felt like they were about to buckle but I tried my best to stand firm. I took deep breaths but all I could think about was how he smelt like cinnamon which is weird for someone who doesn't bake. He leaned in even closer till his face was a little too close to mine and his lips could almost touch my ears.
He whispered something and his breath tickled my ear. It took everything in me to not shiver. 'Since today is our wedding night,' he said, his voice huskier and deeper than I'd ever heard it, 'I think you know how this is going to go.'
His hand found mine and his grip tightened around my wrist. I remember thinking to myself, 'This is it Kat. In another fifteen minutes, your clothes would be on the floor.'
He let out a small chuckle. 'I think you know that the only appropriate way to end tonight,' he took a long pause and I bit my lip, waiting for him to say it, only to be heavily disappointed when he said, 'would be with a nice movie.'
He pulled away, smiling and chuckling to himself. Leading me on like that was absolutely unnecessary and a little enraging. He really thought he could play me like this and leave me hanging without any consequences. He thought wrong.
I grabbed him by the shoulder and with all my might, I pulled at him and pinned him to the wall. He still had a smug look on his face from having fooled me like that. I took his left hand and pinned it beside him, smiling wide. 'You know,' I whispered, 'there are some other, more enjoyable things we can do on our wedding night.'
I winked suggestively as my one hand slowly lifted up the end of his T-shirt. I leaned in closer and looked into his eyes. While my fingers wrapped around his bare-skinned waist, I maintained the eye contact and I could feel him getting restless with my advancements. My hand crept up higher and I could feel him suck in a breath as my cold fingers lightly lingered on his skin.
I placed a soft kiss on his cheek, then his jaw, then a little lower down on his neck as he stayed as still as he could manage to be. I pulled away to look into his eyes. His pupils were wide as a night-time cat's and I couldn't help but laugh.
I loosened my grip on his wrist and his arm dropped beside him while he tugged down on his T-shirt. I smirked and gave him a playful wink before lying down on his bed and picking up the remote.
I scrolled through the movie suggestions before asking Jamie, 'What do you want to see? Horror? Comedy? Action?'
On hearing no response, I turned to see him standing against the wall, caressing his wrist, a dumbfounded look splashed all over his face. 'That was so intense,' he said softly as I smiled. 'There was so much tension, oh my god.'
I laughed out loud, dragging him to the bed as he continued to stare into space and mutter about how intense that encounter was. I placed a kiss on his cheek and his hand flew up to cover his bright red face. 'Guess I'll have to take it slow with you. How will we have 17 children if you're so shy?'
He smiled and ran his fingers through my hair. 'Jokes on you, you said want to adopt.' He took the remote from my hands and put on some sci-fi movie, smiling wide enough to show off his slight dimples.
'I really like you Katherine.' He said softly, 'I like you enough to ask you out on a date and ask you to be my girlfriend. I just think you should know that.'
I scoffed. 'Too bad for you,' I said, rolling my eyes as he stared in disappointment. 'I can't date you.' His eyes fell and I smiled at the sad look on his face. 'I'm a married woman now and I have a very handsome husband.'
He lightly punched my shoulder, giggling like a 14 year old as I smiled playfully. 'Can't break a handsome guys heart,' I shrugged as I moved a little closer to him, relaxing against the headboard.
He yawned deeply, stretching his hands into the air. I saw him lowering his arms behind me. He put it down so very slowly, like I would hit him for it. I grabbed his wrist and pulled it down till his arm rested on the headboard rail, wrapped around my shoulder.
'You're like a cringey teenager who has the worst moves,' I muttered under my breath, scoffing at his ridiculous idea which probably came out of some adolescent's 'how to get a girl' handbook.
