I glanced at my watch to see the time. It was nearly 10:30pm (or 22:30 as Katherine insists on saying) and I was waiting at the bus stop because my driver was sick and Anil was on a vacation. I begged Katherine to come pick me up but she told me to 'woman up' and take a bus. After being forced into watching a documentary about taxi driver serial killers by my slightly cruel wife, I'd sworn off of using taxis. So there I was- standing with just one other guy, waiting for my bus. I called Katherine but she must've fallen asleep because she didn't pick up so I spent the rest of the bus ride, trying to calm my nerves.
It kept getting darker outside with every passing second and I had never been very comfortable with the dark. When I got down, it was nearly pitch black and all I could do was curse myself for staying so late at the office. I started walking towards my house when I heard footsteps behind me.
'I'm too young to die so soon,' I thought to myself.
Every time I sped up, the footsteps would speed up too. I started slow jogging and I could hear them coming closer and closer. My heart was thumping loudly in my chest and I could hear my blood rushing. I stopped suddenly and waited for them to come closer, hoping that they'd just pass by me and keep walking.
I felt someone touch my shoulder and I did the one move that Kat had taught me. I hit their elbow and twisted their arm till I was standing behind them and their arm was pinned to the back. I couldn't even register what happened but the next thing I knew, my arm was wrapped around my own neck and my thigh was hurting immensely.
'This is how I die,' I thought to myself, closing my eyes shut, waiting for the final blow to end my life.
Instead, the grip on my wrist loosened and the person took a step backward. I opened one eye, then the other, still afraid. Suddenly, the whole street was filled with a resonating laughter that seemed all too familiar. I turned to look at who it was and there she stood- clutching onto her thigh and her stomach, bent over laughing- Katherine.
'With that grip, you're definitely going to die. Or mugged at least. You're probably an easier target than a 5 year old.' She let out in between laughs.
I sighed. My heart beat was coming back to it's normal rate and I felt myself calm down.
'Don't say something like that. Are you cursing me? If I die or get mugged, it's definitely going to be because you said it right now and put it into the universe. You want to become a widow so fast, my goodness.' I was still in shock because of all the events that took place in the span of a little less then 10 minutes.
'I came to pick you up,' she said, smiling and coming closer, 'since I didn't want you walking home all alone but I couldn't help myself when I saw you all scared and bundled up.'
She stretched out her hand and I grabbed it, pulling her closer. 'You nearly gave me a heart attack.' I said, swinging our intertwined hands and smiling.
Who needs bungee jumping for an adrenaline rush when they have Katherine by their side?
A/N: I know it's short don't you dare come at me for it.
