I pushed open the door to my office and Katherine followed me inside. She dumped her purse on the bean bag and looked around. She went closer to the world map that hung between two shelves and painted to it.'What are the pins for?' She asked, removing a red one.
I hurried over and put the pin back in, 'Red ones are the countries where Flash is a leading brand, yellow is for the places where we opened less than three years ago and green is for places that we've been open in but haven't received much profit from.'
Katherine sat down on my chair. We were still wearing the matching outfit that the PR people forced upon us for the press release. I was in a white shirt with a blue blazer and a grey tie while Katherine was in a navy blue pencil skirt and a white blouse.
She looked pretty.
I removed my blazer and hung it on the chair where Katherine was sitting. We were here to 'spend some time together' before we met my parents. They must have seen the pictures and read the articles because they were hell bent on meeting her.
Anil came inside and handed Katherine a white bag with the word 'Flash' written on it in bold. She had asked him to get the bag from her car so she could get ready for the meeting.
She removed three dresses from the bag- a short maroon coloured wrap around, a knee-length pale blue dress with buttons and a simple flowy yellow dress with spaghetti straps.
'I'm sure I'd look gorgeous in all of them, with this wonderful face I've been gifted with,' she said, 'but which one would your parents prefer?'
I personally like the maroon wrap around dress but it seemed a little casual and the yellow one seemed unnecessarily formal so I asked her to go with the pale blue one. Someone from hair and makeup came in, jotted down her size and rushed out with the pale blue dress to find matching accessories.
As soon as the girl had left, Katherine started spinning around in my chair and playing with the things on my desk.
'You were awful at the press release,' Katherine said, throwing an eraser at me. 'You seemed all nervous and jittery. We should work on that.'
I sighed and shook my head, picking up the eraser from the floor and putting it back where it belonged. She kept fidgeting with the things on my desk and moving them around while I tried to put them back as they were.
'Do you have OCD?' She asked, picking up a photo frame and moving it 3 inches to the right. I pushed it back to its place and decided against answering her question.
Despite my attempt to avoid the 'OCD' question, she persistently asked me the same thing over and over shuffling the things on my desk every time she asked. Although I kept putting it back, it had really begun to annoy me.
'Do you have OCD?' She asked, for what seemed like the 100th time, as she picked up a black pen and put it in a drawer with whiteboard markers. I'd had enough.
I slammed my hand against the table- hard. 'I think you should stop.' I suggested, keeping the black pen back in its place.
'Geez,' she taunted, 'just answer my question- do you have OCD or not. It's not that hard. I already know the answer anyway so I don't know why you're getting all worked up about-'
I came closer to her until my face was right in front of hers. 'Do you have dissociative amnesia?' I asked, my voice low and soft but seething with anger.
She pushed my shoulders with all her strength and her chair went flying backwards with her spinning around on it. It hit a shelf and stopped as she turned the chair to face me.
'How do you know?' She asked. She seemed surprised but also a little- afraid? I was going to move closer but decided against it.
'Just answer my question,' I was simply repeating her words, 'It's not that hard. I already-'
'I get it,' she huffed, annoyed and angry. 'I won't bring it up. But you really have to tell me- how did you know?'
She walked towards me, her brows furrowed in confusion. I couldn't help but smile a little.
'Katherine, you might have forgotten. But I could never. It's etched into my mind.'
You guys really thought that this is gonna be an empty romance novel. Well, guess again. Next chapter has a mix of emotions coming for you hahaha.
