Oh my gosh.
Oh. My. Gosh.
Fuck.
I twist around in my seat to watch Harley, who's sleeping in the backseat.
MJ's driving us back home.
I can't believe he kept this from me. I can't believe that Wade was bullying my brother.
I'm going to kill him. Wade. I'm going to kill Wade for ever laying a hand on my brother!
"Hey, Peter?" I turn back in my seat to face MJ. "Why was Wade bullying Harley?"
"Because Harley refused to tell me to stop trying to talk to Wade," I answer. I don't know if Harley would want me to tell MJ, but I trust her.
"We're here. Should we wake up Harley?" MJ asks a few moments later, pulling into our driveway.
"I don't want to, but we can't carry him in by ourselves," I tell her. She nods and gets out of the car to move to the backseat.
"Hey, hey, Harley, we're here," MJ says softly, shaking my brother. He stirs and sleepily blinks his eyes.
I get out of the car and help Harley to our couch.
"Peter, I'm fine-" Harley protests.
"No, you're not, lay down," I order. Harley sighs but doesn't move.
I head into our kitchen and fill a bowl with warm water. I grab a clean rag and direct MJ to the bandages.
I walk back into the living room, balancing Ibuprofen, a bowl of water, and a rag in my arms. I set down the bowl and hand my brother a cup of water and the pills. He swallows them and lays back down.
"Harley, I'm going to need you to take off your shirt so I can see to the wounds," I tell him. Harley nods and sits up wincing. I help him get his shirt off and gasp.
His chest is peppered with bruises ranging from pale yellow to dark purple.
"Harley!" I exclaim. "This is madness! You have to tell somebody!" Harley dazedly waves a hand, his eyelids drooping. I sigh and start cleaning off the small cuts that cover his body. I lift his head up and gently sponge the bloody cut on the back of his head, from when he hit the lockers.
I can't believe this. I can't believe Harley didn't tell me. I can't believe I fell for someone based on looks.
I can't believe Harley let people do this to him... because he didn't want to hurt me.
We're going to have a long talk when he gets up.
"I have found the... oh my gosh Harley!" MJ rushes over to me and kneels next to the sofa. She gently runs a hand down the side of his face. "This is awful. I'm going to murder Wilson!"
I grab the bandages and wrap his chest, careful not to wake him up, but my hands are shaking so much, that MJ has to take over.
"Thanks, MJ," I say and sit down on the floor, breathing in and out.
"Of course." MJ answers. "Are you okay?" MJ sits down in front of me, staring at me with her big brown eyes.
"I don't- I don't know. I really liked Wade, but I'm going to kill him for what he did to my brother, but I still... I still like him. And I hate myself for it." I explain.
"You've known that Wilson is a dick, for what? Forty-five minutes? Give it time." MJ comforts. I nod, tears slipping down my face. "Oh, Peter." MJ moves closer and wraps me in a hug. "Harley will be okay. He's strong. Stronger than you think. He's managed to deal with this for three weeks, and he's still alive. He's still Harley. You two can make it through anything, and I most certainly believe you both can make it through this." MJ says. I smile.
"Thanks, MJ, you're the best."
"I know."
Wow, kind of an emotional chapter. I hope.
