"So you're in town for a while?" Shikamaru asked. Emi had joined his, Ino's, and Chouji's table after a small conversation with Ino.
"Yep, just doing some research," Emi said, a nervous smile on her face. She sat beside Chouji, directly across from Ino stated intensely at her chest, causing her to squirm in her seat.
"I highly doubt you're back for that. Most of us Chunin and the Jonin know about your little escapade," Shikamaru said, smirking.
"Did you really have to call me out? You know how hard I've been working to gather information on becoming a shinobi?" She whined, crossing her arms.
"It's more than just studying, you need to practice. Strengthen your spirit, your body, and your mind. Otherwise you won't last very long in a real battle," Shikamaru said.
"Yeah, when I saw those people, I just froze. I was like a sniveling little kid," she said in a disappointed tone.
"Hey, it's okay. None of us are perfect. Who can blame you? You've never really been in a situation like that before, right?" Chouji said, mid munch of some barbeque.
"I've sparred, but never really, well, been in a life or death situation more than twice now," she explained.
"So where did you go after you left the village?" Ino finally chimed in.
"I moved out to a small farmland to the northwest. I suppose my mother and brother are still there," she said.
"You don't know?" Ino asked.
"I left quite a long time ago. I've never been back since," Emi replied.
"How come? They must miss you," Chouji chimed.
"I suppose they might," she gave a soft smile.
"So, have you gotten in touch with anyone else from when we were younger?" Shikamaru asked.
"Well, sort of. When I was pretending to be Eisuke I met Hinata, Sakura, and Naruto, but I don't think they recognized me."
"Why don't we pay them all a visit? We don't have anything too important to do at the moment," Chouji offered.
"That sounds great," Emi said. The group finished their meal and they exited the restaurant. The group was first headed towards the training grounds, where Hinata's team would most likely be. Upon arriving, it seemed two teams were there.
Hinata was seated by herself next to a tree. The two young men from her first arrival were there, Shino and Kiba. The other team consisted of a brown haired young man with long hair, a young girl with twin brown buns, and a very lively looking young man with thick eyebrows.
"How's training going?" Shikamaru stated, distracting the groups.
"It was going quite well until you interrupted us," the long haired young man stated.
"Just came to visit. We brought a special guest. Some of you might remember her," Shikamaru announced, motioning to Emi.
"You're that ninja we brought to the Fifth," Kiba said, his dog next to him.
"Well, actually, the shinobi she was looking for was my father. Not me. My name is Emi, Emi Hinigami," she said, giving a warm smile.
"Hinigami? So you're the daughter of Eisuke. Quite a pleasure," the brown haired young man stated.
"And why are you just now telling us this? Whatever happened to that special mission you were supposed to go on?" Kiba asked, his arms crossed.
"Well-" "She ran all the way back here. Poor thing isn't even a shinobi," Shikamaru said, outing her.
"Shikamaru!" She hissed under her breath. She only received a devilish smirk.
"Well, that's unfortunate. You could have gotten yourself killed," Rhino said quietly.
"Are you alright?" Hinata spoke up, coming to join the group.
"Yeah. Just a little run in with the enemy is all. I got away," she admitted.
"So, what's the Hinigami family all about? If Neji knows about it, the family must be pretty high up there," The brown haired girl said.
"The Hinigami family slowly died out among the years. They have a special type of genjutsu. It's called the Yokubo. Scientists are quite infatuated with this genjutsu due to the chemicals involved with it," the boy known as Neji explained.
"It's not like, killer, is it?" The girl asked.
"I mean, it's just really distracting. Your body has to naturally filter the chemicals out of your blood before it wears off," Emi explained.
"What does it look like?" Ino asked.
"Um well-" "Can you show it to us?" Kiba asked.
"I mean... alright. Just, I'll need a volunteer I guess. Someone that doesn't have anything to do for a few hours," she explained.
"Lee!" The girl and Ino called. The bushy browed young man came up.
"I will gladly volunteer myself! It is such an honor Miss Hinigami!" He exclaimed, bowing.
"Um, it's nice to meet you too," she said.
She quietly activated her kekkei genkai. Her eyes glowed their brilliant violet, and the tears slowly dripped down her face, thick like sludge. After a few moments, she stopped, her eyes burning. She took what little she'd gathered and wiped equal amounts on Lee's cheeks.
"Ew," she heard Ino whisper.
Lee's expression went blank after a few moments. It was as if he was a zombie, brain dead.
"Lee?" Neji asked, waving a hand in front of his face.
"Wow..." the girl began, going to touch his face. Emi stopped her.
"Tenten, be careful. Direct skin contact causing you to be out under the same genjutsu," Neji explained. The group then discussed her kekkei genkai while Lee was left as a mindless manican.
