Lauren thought about wrapping her coat around her head and walking back to her house at top speed. It was after all, only about two blocks away. But then refrained from the idea. She would be absolutely drenched by the time she reached her house if she did that. Her legs were beginning to ache.
Finding no other option, she sat down on the pavement.
The rain showed no signs of stopping soon, and she cursed her ill luck.
After what seemed like an eternity, she saw a black car approaching. The music was turned on, and it was so loud that it boomed through the closed windows.
As the car passed by, a cold splash of water landed at Lauren's feet. She shuddered and gritted her teeth out of anger.
There was a brief flash of lightning again, and the noise of the rain got a bit more deafening.
Lauren was sure she wouldn't return home without a nasty cold or a fever that day.
