your POV
I was finally back home. Rushing  past the front door, I swung the tacos down onto the table. I ran into my room, close to tears.

"Y/n?" I heard dad call.
I slammed my bedroom door and flung myself on the bed. The shock of being a survivor of  gun violence had just set in.

I heard dad stand up from his chair and run over. He knocked anxiously on my door. When I didn't answer, he let himself in and stared at me, practically buried under my sheets.

"Y/n...dear, what happened?"

I sat up and stared at my lap.

"Tell me. Did you run into a nasty boy? I'll deal with them." He encouraged, and cracked his knuckles in a weak attempt to appear menacing.

I let out a soft laugh,

and then had a total meltdown.

One box of tissues, and two bear hugs from him was what it took for me to sputter out my evening's incredibly traumatising experience.

After listening to my close brush with death, Dad clapped his hands against his face.

"I'm not a good parent." He groaned.

"Don't say that. You are." I said, rubbing at my eyes.

"Maybe you should live with your mother."

My heart dropped.

"Absolutely not!I'm never going near that woman again."

Dad sat on my bed, shoulders slumped and a dejected look on his face.

"Dad...it's okay now. I'm here and I'm safe. Let's go have those tacos." I said softly, trying to lift the spirits.

I could see how his face contorted into a furious yet disappointed look. I knew he was fighting his demons, not knowing how he could ever live with himself again.

My heart broke for him.

He looked at me, eyes shining.

"Alright." He replied in a hoarse whisper.

~•~
My mood had lifted considerably after having dinner and spending time with dad.

We had watched the first episode of Space Heroes, which I had found rather interesting and funny. Dad however, still insisted that Star Trek was better.

After being stuffed chock-full, I grabbed a bottle of water from the kitchen and went into my room.

I pulled out a book and was just going to open it when I happened to glance at my phone screen.

Unknown number: 1 new message

I grabbed my phone, and clicked on the notification.

Could it be...?

UN: Hey, Y/N.

My heart lit up. But I had to make sure, just in case.

YOU:hello? Who's this?

UN: Perhaps it's the dashingly handsome creature you happened to come across this evening?

I raised an eyebrow in amusement.

YOU: oh? does he have a name?

UN: Nice try.

YOU: what do you mean?

UN: I'm not supposed to be talking to you.

YOU: aww did your mommy say no??

UN : HarHarHar. Pure comedy. 🙄

YOU: it's not fair. You know my name.

UN: You told me your name.

YOU: yeah, well if I hadn't we wouldn't be having this conversation, so....

A few minutes passed before he replied.

UN: That's true.

YOU: so,when can I see you again?

UN: I don't think that's such a great idea.

A sudden surge of recklessness coursed through me. I was feeling...adventurous.

YOU: great. Meet me on the rooftop of building 78 on Marymount avenue.

UN: Have you not learnt from today's experience? That going out alone=bad???

I considered this. The shock from the  evening's incident was still coursing through my veins, messing with any of my rational thinking abilities. It flicked the switch that read 'impulse control' in my brain off, and that was that.

YOU: the only thing I've learnt today is that a chivalrous turtle thing exists, and I'm dying to meet him. 2 AM sound good?

He definitely took his time to answer that.

UN: Turtle thing hopes to see you there.
